Job description

My client, a local authority based in Oxford, seek an experienced Housing Options Officer for a temp booking starting asap.

The role:

  • To support move on from various types of Supported Housing, including Mental Health and Step Down accommodation, generating flow and capacity within the system.
  • For people who are ready to move on from these types of Supported Housing, but who are 'stuck' and unable to move on:
    • Review each case, identifying and overcoming any barriers preventing move on;
    • Maximise Housing Options and pursue all possible routes to move on;
  • With Supported Housing teams:
    • Deliver training and mentoring to develop the team's knowledge and expertise around Housing Options, legislation and procedures;
    • Provide good advice and advocacy support around housing legislation.
  • Identify patients who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness from point of admission so that discharge planning can begin early and an unsafe (to rough sleeping) or delayed discharge be avoided.
  • Support the individual to connect with all relevant agencies and assist them with completing the relevant paperwork (identification, benefit applications etc…).
  • Ensure the discharge is safe and planned, with all relevant parties being notified in a timely way and any ongoing clinical care / support / equipment in place.
  • Ensure that accommodation from hospital is appropriate to the individual’s needs and such that will aid recovery and recuperation.
  • Support the individual to navigate both health and housing systems, ensuring a coherent and integrated personal plan is in place.
  • To take ownership in ensuring all Housing Options are explored in all cases to establish and maximise opportunities for preventing homelessness.
  • To carry out the Council’s statutory duties under homelessness legislations. Ensuring applications are taken and investigated appropriately under the terms of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996 part 7 as amended, Localism Act 2011,Code of Guidance, case law and the Council’s own policies.
  • To be open to change, ready to explore new and different approaches, testing and learning to improve, with a passion for providing a great service to people in housing need.
  • To have a positive attitude to problem solving and openness to new ways of working. To show resilience and flexibility and a continuous desire to improve service delivery.

Mon - Fri - 37 hours (will consider part time for the right candidate)

The successful candidate will be working with 350 supported housing units. Using expertise and contacts to open doors.

Housing options experience is highly desirable. Good knowledge of housing legislation and good knowledge of Oxfordshire

Experience working with vulnerable people. Dealing with challenges and working with people with mental health is all useful

 Enhanced DBS required

Immediate start - initial 3 month booking likely to extend to 12 months.

£22.27 per hour PAYE
