Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Approved Mental Health Professional to join Warwickshire’s Out of Hours AMHP Service.

About the Team/the Role

As an experienced, qualified AMHP you will have a very attractive shift pattern, which will enable you to maintain a healthy work / life balance. We offer lots of flexibility to work from home, if desired, although sometimes you will need to come into the office. You will usually work three long days each week from 8.30am to 9.30pm with four days off. You are also expected to do a number of ‘on-call’ shifts per month, during which you are available throughout the night to undertake urgent assessments under the Mental Health Act.

Key Requirements

Essential requirements of the role are to be able to work autonomously and under pressure, while exercising sound decision making, professional leadership and organisational skills. The role entails working some weekends and bank holidays. In addition to the normally salary for an AMHP grade, as an Out of hours employee you will receive an allowance of £6782.14 per year.

Although doing AMHP assessments is a very significant part of this role, we also ensure that you have a variety of work so as to utilise your skills and knowledge to the full. This may include undertaking assessments under the Care Act or ongoing safeguarding work within Warwickshire’s urgent and acute mental health services, writing reports for/attending Mental Health Tribunals, attending guardianship panels and applying to court for the appoin
tment or displacement of nearest relatives. Here at Warwickshire County Council we work closely with the NHS Mental Health Trust (CWPT) to advise about and support with social care and AMHP-related matters.

Warwickshire’s Out of Hours AMHPs receive regular supervision and excellent support from the AMHP Team Manager. There is close working with the day time AMHP service, and good communication is maintained through two daily meetings held via Teams.

There is a bi-monthly AMHP Forum, which you would be invited to attend as well as a wider Mental Health Social Care Forum. These forums alternate between being held face to face and remotely.
Warwickshire’s Out of Hours AMHPs are line managed by the Council’s AMHP Team Manager but ‘seconded’ to Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership Trust under our Section 75 partnership agreement. This means you will be offered excellent access to training, both via the Council and the Mental Health Trust.
