An opportunity has arisen for a Distribution Control Room Outage System Planning Engineer to join the outage planning team within the North Distribution Control Centre. As an Outage System Planning Engineer, you will carry out technical assessments of both 11kV and 33kV networks and make recommendations for generation export during network outages. This will be a key role in ensuring the flexible response of our networks on a real time and future basis, working closely with our Control Engineers to offer guidance and assistance.

- The role will include running operational studies on a real time and preparatory basis to ensure that the high levels of generation on the network in the North of Scotland can be effectively managed to ensure maximum utilisation of the system.

- In this role you'll manage, understand and analyse the generation export associated with specific outages and any associated interactions. You will be required to confirm network compliance with relative engineering standards, you'll promote the Distribution Network Access Policy, Distribution and Grid Code to ensure compliance with the license obligations.

- Carry out network contingency studies and provide reports to internal stakeholders.

- Prepare, manage and take ownership of the SHEPD HV outage process, understand and analyse the risk associated with specific outages and associated many interactions.

What do I need?

To succeed in this role, you should be qualified to a minimum HNC level in Electrical Power Engineering or similar subject, have detailed knowledge of the operation and nature of a power distribution system and be commercially aware. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a passion for solving problems by developing cost efficient solutions and an ability to drive business strategies.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- A minimum HNC level in Electrical Power Engineering or similar subject, have detailed knowledge of the operation and nature of a power distribution system and be commercially aware.

- Experience using network modelling software packages such as PSS®E, PSS®Sincal and/or Power Factory would be preferred, though other experience with electrical analysis study models would be considered.

- A confident communicator with the ability to produce reasoned justifications in structured written reports and be comfortable organising, planning and prioritising your workload to achieve demanding targets and deadlines.

- Demonstrate a passion for solving problems by developing cost efficient solutions and an ability to drive business strategies.
