About us UCL Earth Sciences is among the top departments in the UK for this subject area and ranked joint 6th in UCL based on REF performance and 9th nationally: UCL is consistently placed in the global top 20 across a wide range of university rankings and is currently 2nd nationally. About the role The postholder will be responsible for coordinating and delivering GeoBus UCL workshops (www.geobus-london.org.uk). The GeoBus UCL is an online outreach platform that delivers Earth science themed workshops to primary, secondary schools and colleges across the UK. The role will provide support for the outreach, recruitment and widening participation efforts of the department and wider faculty, including open-days and science festivals. The post-holder will be expected to keep up-to-date with the current internal and external funding opportunities and actively seek additional funding to support the ongoing running of the GeoBus UCL. Duti es and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Support, develop and deliver the activities of the online Earth science outreach facility, GeoBus UCL (www.geobus-london.org.uk). • Deliver GeoBus workshops live via video call to a variety of audiences across primary, secondary schools and colleges. • Coordinate with schools booking GeoBus workshops and in the run up to their workshop. • Organise, pack and post activity kits (associated with all GeoBus online workshops) to schools across the UK. • Write and maintain risk assessments for all activities associated with the GeoBus UCL. • Coordinate with central faculty on the ongoing widening participation aims and initiatives. • Support the Earth science department in developing outreach activities and projects. Seek out opportunities interally and externally for collaboration and funding. About you The successful candidate will have a BA/BSc in physical sciences, preferably Earth Sciences/Geology/Geophysics and a background in science, science communication or science education. Excellent communication skills (written and spoken), including the ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people in a teaching and learning context is essential, as is excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective relationships with staff, schools and industry.
