We are looking for a diligent Validation Engineer to join the global Home Care team here at our HQ in Port Sunlight, UK. If you want to be a part of a team working across some of the world’s biggest FMCG brands and shape their sustainable future, then we would like to hear from you.

JOB PURPOSE

As a Validation Engineer in Homecare you will work across multiple innovation and capability projects to deliver Unilever’s packaging and future technologies, focusing on speed to market.

You will support projects with cross functional teams, partnering closely with Design Engineering and Supply Chain and be responsible for validating future packaging, new technologies, novel materials and formats such as capsules, moving the needle on packaging robustness, efficiency and suitability for factories whilst not impacting aesthetics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with internal teams to validate packaging ideas and future technologies to deliver to brand / R+D ambition utilising our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC)
  • Support with the day to day running of the packaging line within the AMC ensuring that it is operational.
  • Identifying, designing, and carrying out validation trials ensuring protocols are in line with local factory recommendations, suggesting where further improvements can be made if necessary.
  • Use engineering tools (basic CAD, simulation, and prototype) to validate packaging concepts and pilot packaging samples.
  • Design of experiments and technical analysis to create/evolve design rules for existing and new product formats such as capsules and future packaging materials.
  • Using engineering and validation capabilities to optimise designs for efficiency, robustness and suitability for factory.
  • Attending factory trials to capture best practices and requirements for current and future packaging designs.
  • Work closely with technical partners both internal and external to land new innovations and technologies

ALL ABOUT YOU

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or similar, with a good understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong understanding of packaging line machinery and its operation.
  • Relevant experience supporting component validation and engineering. Experience in plastic packaging components, paper and board packaging and/or novel product formats such as capsules is preferred but not essential.
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software for analytical purposes.
  • Ability to read 2D technical drawings for packaging components and factory lines.
  • A creative, logical and analytical mind to generate new and innovative validation methodologies for new and existing packaging formats.
  • Ability to manipulate large datasets and generate Designs of Experiments
  • Must be used-to be working as part of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong communicator and influencer
  • A passion to learn and willingness to develop new skills
  • An eye for detail
  • Proven project experience with ability to meet deadlines
