Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paediatric Superintendent Radiographer, based at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
The post holder will lead this specialist team to provide Imaging across plain film, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and the cardiac catheter lab. UHL has a vision to deliver a purpose built Children's hospital to serve Leicestershire. Imaging will have it's own department within this facility.

The duties and responsibilities of the post holder are to lead and develop the paediatric Imaging service. Currently this encompasses Plain film, fluoroscopy, Ultrasound and the EMHCC Cardiac Catheter lab.
The post holder will work co-operatively with the Modality Lead, other Superintendents and the Paediatric team to ensure that patients receive Imaging at its Best.
This is primarily a first line management role, and requires radiographic as well as managerial knowledge and expertise. The post-holder may be required to work clinically in the paediatric departments when staffing levels require it. They will also be required to support managerial cover in central UHL on a roster basis.
The role is to provide day to day organisation of the X-ray service and contribute to the delivery of a high quality imaging service to patients.
The post holder will lead and manage all Radiographers within the paediatric team, and work with the other Superintendent team to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained.
The post holder will provide support, guidance, and development to staff. An element of out of hours working at weekends will be required.

• To deliver an efficient and effective service within the modality.
• Organise, plan and prioritise workload according to clinical need.
• Take responsibility for and organise sections of the department as required.
• Monitor the capacity and demand of the service and assist in reviewing working practices to accommodate any shift in requirements. To take responsibility for appropriate escalation in accordance with the department procedure and communicate actions.
• Participate in the Duty Superintendent Roster at the LRI.
• To assume day to day management of staff within the modality.
• To be responsible for the care and comfort of the patient whilst they are in the Radiology Department respecting their privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs.
• To contribute fully in the regular setting, monitoring and review of performance and quality management of all aspects of the service.
• To develop, document and monitor protocols for working practice within the area.
• To supervise, advise and mentor staff.
• To work closely with the other Superintendent Radiographers to provide optimum patient care and constantly seek ways of improving standards and performance.
• To ensure that staff are aware of the Trust’s procedures and ensure that complaints are dealt with in accordance with these procedures.
