Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Ward Clerk team in the Child Health Department.
The role involves preparing the clinic notes for the patients returning to the unit, also scanning and the filing of patients notes on to the computer system (CPD). All training will be given.
All Ward Clerking aspects of this role will evolve over time and further opportunities are available to progress in the organisation.
The role is varied and busy - working closely with the clinical team, assisting patients and families with their enquiries. This role is fast paced and rewarding. You will also help to provide clerical support across the wider Child Health department. This is a great way to see and support the work in a busy hospital and offers good development opportunities, as well as the staff incentives that the NHS offers its staff.
  • Act as a point of contact for the receipt of enquires, which may be made via correspondence, the telephone, email, or face to face from for example, patients, visitors, staff and others, both internal and external. Provide general information, as required, directly to patients, relatives and staff.
  • Resolve routine problems and issues arising from contacts, making judgements on the appropriate referral of such problems where necessary.
  • Undertake basic Ward Clerk tasks, for example, production and issuing of already prepared standard and routine letters, distribution of incoming/outgoing post, photocopying and completion of standard forms/returns.
  • Collates all relevant patient records, for example, case notes and investigation results, ensuring their availability for clinical staff when required and be responsible for the maintenance of relevant filing systems.
  • May be required to type/word process routine letters and other appropriate documents.
  • Ensure that any follow-up patient appointments are made prior to patient discharge.
