Summary
The Day is the UK’s most-read daily source of news for young people at school from the age of 7 to 18. We turn the news into lessons for schools and cover the most important and interesting news stories on the planet (and beyond) every weekday.
These stories are created by our team of specialist freelancers and prepared for publication in-house. This involves proof-reading and making any corrections to our daily edition and building a comprehensive understanding of the editorial process. The role will involve working with the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor to make sure every edition meets the standard our readers expect.
The successful candidate will be responsible for editing our daily articles on one weekday evening per week (plus one Tuesday per month) and one Sunday per fortnight. We all work from home so this role can be based anywhere in the UK where there is good internet.
The role is a Part Time role, which requires working in the late afternoon/early evening. We need to find someone who is excited, not overwhelmed, by the constant and changing demands of journalism and who has a committed, principled and flexible approach to work. Due to the nature of fast moving news stories, we might require you to be available outside of normal working hours to respond to the needs of the business. You will have a good eye for detail and take pride in your work.
We balance this with a strong belief in employee well-being, team-work and openness. As a business we strive to be one of the best places to work in the UK.
