Job description

Each year group has a dedicated pastoral team consisting of a Head of Year, the Assistant Head of Year, the team of form tutors and the Pastoral Support Officer (PSO). The PSO has a key role supporting students and responding to parents and carers. They enable the Head of Year (HOY) and Assistant Head of Year (AHOY) to focus on the strategic development of the year group.

The purpose of the year team is to work collaboratively to support the students with their academic progress and social and emotional well-being. This is to ensure that all students in the year group experience high quality teaching and learning and maintain high standards of student conduct and achievement.

Hours of work

The hours of work are 36 hours per week Monday to Friday for 39 weeks per year (term time plus five INSET days). The daily hours of work are 8am and 4pm with an unpaid lunch break. Exact times and breaks will be agreed with the successful candidate. 

The successful candidate will

  • Be an organised, team player who can work collaboratively
  • Have a commitment to the promotion of the welfare and development of young people
  • Be professional with excellent communication and administration skills
  • Ideally have experience of working with students in a school setting
  • Have access to confidential and highly sensitive data so must be able to maintain confidentiality and understand GDPR.
  • Have an awareness of ways in which the achievement of young people can be supported with the aim improve outcomes

Our School

Carshalton High School for Girls, a member of the Girl’s Learning Trust, is a high achieving school in the suburbs of south London. Confirmed as “Good” by Ofsted in January 2023, we achieved our best exam results to date in Summer 2023.
