Pastoral Support Worker

Commencing September 2024

Fixed-Term until 31 August 2025

Location: Magna Academy Poole

Hours: 37 hours per week term time only plus INSET days

08:15 - 16:00 Monday to Friday (0.865335 FTE) 

Salary: Grade E (points 07-11) £24,294 to £25,979 pro rata

Actual salary: £20,803 to £22,246

Main job Purpose:

To provide a high quality of care, support, advice and guidance to students in line with academy expectations. The post holder will promote students’ academic achievements, alongside their social and personal development with a focus on the day-to-day welfare and pastoral needs of students to better support their learning. They will work to reduce and help students overcome the social and emotional barriers to learning with a particular emphasis on our most vulnerable students. Mentoring targeted students will form part of the role as to encourage students to take personal responsibility for their actions and make positive, well-informed choices.

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • To establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with individual pupils and groups in support of pupils learning, welfare and personal development.
  • Promote inclusion of SEND and SEMH students within academy.
  • To assist the behaviour support team and encourage students’ positive attitudes to learning and general behaviour around school and within the local community.
  • To liaise with individual teachers and departments in relation to the behaviour, attendance and progress of individuals and groups of students as directed by the Head of Behaviour Support. 
  • To accurately record incidents using the school’s information systems and keep records of incidents dealt with in a timely manner and in adherence to academy safeguarding protocols.
  • Act as a role model and set high standards and expectations of conduct and behaviour.
  • Provide administrative support to the inclusion team, including production of reports on individuals and groups of students. 
  • The post holder must be able to use their initiative, have excellent interpersonal skills and record keeping whilst working as part of a multi-skilled team of professionals. They must actively promote positive values and good conduct; dealing promptly with incidents in accordance with school policy.
  • Attend relevant school meetings as required.

Purpose:

  • To provide high quality care for all students 
  • To support and guide all students in their personal development 
  • To ensure high standards of behaviour across all year groups
  • To play a full role in the management of behaviour in the school 
  • To investigate incidents of poor behaviour as they arise or as directed 
  • To keep up-to-date records of students behaviour, actions taken and parental meetings using the school’s information management systems 
  • To contact and meet with parents where appropriate   
  • To work with the Inclusion Team to identify appropriate support for targeted, vulnerable and at risk students  

General:

Conditions of Service

Governed by the National Agreement on Teachers Pay and Conditions, supplemented by local conditions as agreed by the AAT.

Special Conditions of Service

Due to the nature of the post, candidates are not entitled to withhold information regarding convictions by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 as amended. Candidates are required to give details of any convictions on their application form and are expected to disclose such information at the appointed interview.

As this post allows substantial access to children, candidates are required to comply with departmental procedures in relation to police checks. If candidates are successful in their application, prior to taking up post, they will be required to give written permission to the Department to ascertain details from the Police regarding any convictions against them and, as appropriate the nature of such conviction/s.
