A Specialist School in Reading are looking for a Pastoral/Mental Health Assistant to support their pupils with their mental health. The students in this school range from 5 to 18 years old and have a range of complex mental health needs, including students with trauma, anxiety and emotional dysregulation. Your role as their Pastoral/Mental Health Assistant will be to work alongside them and under the guidance of the class teacher, provide them with academic and emotional support in the classroom.

This Pastoral/Mental Health support role is aimed at an enthusiastic empathetic Psychology Graduate or experienced candidate who wants to initiative restorative practices to assist a wide array of SEMH students (social, emotional and mental health). The school is committed to ensuring no student is left behind academically or pastorally, so the school are looking for someone who is resilient, understanding and up for a challenge.

Many of the students will have been through severe traumas and there will be a mix of good and non-existent relationships with their parents, which lends itself to a diversity of therapies to be employed. Restorative Practice, pragmatism and positive reinforcement will be key skills in this support role in Reading. As a Pastoral/Mental Health Assistant, you will work schools hours (8:30am to 3:30pm) Monday to Friday. The pay is £75 to £80 per day, based on experience.
