We are looking for a Pastry Commis Chef in our Catering & Retail Service department at House of Lords. This is an exciting position for someone that will work across multiple outlets including fine dining restaurants, large and small banqueting and events, and staff dining outlets!

This is an opportunity to work onsite at Parliament working Monday to Friday!

As a Pastry Commis Chef, you will be producing fresh breads, plated desserts for restaurants and events (fining dining and brasserie style), afternoon tea (restaurants and events), canapes, homemade ice creams and sorbets and a variety of chocolate products daily. Your passion will shine through the dishes you create and will feel comfortable to work in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll be accountable for/to:

  • Supporting the Senior Pastry chef in the functional operation of the Pastry kitchen, ensuring the highest standards of Food Quality, Customer Service, Food hygiene and Health & Safety are strictly adhered to.
  • Ensuring that all necessary communication is clear, concise, and understood. To be aware of any changes in menus, cleaning, production, food safety, bookings and anything that could impact the operations of the Pastry kitchen.
  • Ensuring that legal and company requirements are adhered to in respect of Hygiene, Health & Safety, Employment Law, and Food Safety Laws for all staff, visitors, and customers.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of H.A.C.C.P, C.O.S.H.H. and F.I.F.O. To be able to explain and demonstrate their importance.
  • Actively participate to assist the senior chef team in achieving the departments financial goals.

  • NVQ Level 1 & 2 qualifications in Catering and Hospitality or equivalent work experience.
  • A professional, innovative, and creative chef with the skills and fortitude to tackle the range of challenges.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, both written and oral, with the ability to build effective relationships and work successfully within a team.
