Job description

Develop and maintain communication with people about difficult matters and/or on difficult situations Empower children and young people and families to share their ideas and views of the quality of care within the Children and Young Peoples services at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust You will provide monthly reports to the Childrens Team Leaders Meetings and departmental meetings on the analysis of information obtained through the consultation process and future planned activities. To present and represent the childrens views at internal and external meetings promoting the outcomes of the patient involvement projects. Demonstrate engagement and effective communication with a range of children and young people and families, ensuring an inclusive approach is used and all children and young people are able to have a voice. Utilises a variety of strategies to communicate effectively with children and young people and families to gather their views on patient care. You must communicate and co-ordinate activities/meetings with other professionals and outside agencies for example, with other staff within the Trust and with external organisations. This will include consultation events for children and young people and families within the Trust and involving/motivating other professionals to become engaging. Keep accurate and complete records of activities and communication consistent with legislation, policies and procedures. Use of social media to engage with community and national partners in line with Information Governance agreements and social media policy. Develop own knowledge and skills and provide information to others to help their Development Through the Trusts appraisals process and development of a personal development plan, the post holder will identify their educational and professional needs to facilitate continued professional development. Maintain a professional development portfolio. To organise and deliver training to the forum members to improve their skills and confidence. To provide organisational support to the young peoples forum and a parents forum , including agenda items, documentation of meetings and ensuring decisions of the forum are actioned. Influence the development of knowledge, ideas and work practices. Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others. You are required to familiarise him/herself with and comply with Trusts policies and procedures and attend annual mandatory training. You must at all times respect patient confidentiality and in particular the confidentiality of electronically stored personal data, photographs etc in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act (1998). You must be aware of individual responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act and identify and report as necessary any untoward incident, accident or potentially hazardous environment. When moving people or goods the post holder must have completed the relevant training e.g. Moving & Handling. Works in ways to minimise risks to health, safety and security. Contribute to the Improvement of Services Participates in the Directorates Patient Consultation and Involvement Strategy. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the play/ Patient Experience team. Develop skills and knowledge in the field of patient and community involvement strategies, which can be shared with other members of the Trust. To lead on a number of quality improvement projects across the trust to improve experience for children. Co-ordinates service improvement projects in partnership with children, young people, and parents. Co-ordinate, implement and document public and patient activities for the Directorate. Work with children, young people, and their families to help them deal with aspects of their treatment. Providing information and support at all stages of their treatment. To take promote and support initiatives such as the Friends and Family Test and National Paediatric Inpatient Survey providing a response to survey trends and comments. Maintain links with Local and national partners, including the NHS Youth Forum and local youth and community groups. To improve services for young people including to transition to adult services and leading on youre welcome criteria. Maintain quality in own work and encourage others to do so You must at all times work within the Trusts Code of Conduct. Participates in research, audit and quality initiatives eg NSF for Children, CQC, NICE, NHS Institute. Alerts others to quality issues highlighted by the children, young people, or parents. Demonstrates knowledge and skills related to evidence-based practice. Uses and maintains resources efficiently and effectively and encourages others to do so. Support equality and value diversity You must always carry out duties and responsibilities with regards to the Trusts Equal Opportunity Policy. Identifies and takes action when own or others behaviour undermines equality and diversity. Take account of own behaviour and its effect on others. Ensure the forum members are representative of the different groups within childrens services and that all abilities are catered for. Represent Children and Young Peoples Services at the Trust Patient Experience Improvement group. Plan, develop and implement approaches to promote health and wellbeing and prevent adverse effects on health and wellbeing. Identify and report any concerns raised by the children, young people, or parents. Identify how health and well-being of children, young people and parents can be improved through consultation and involvement processes. Review, document and feedback the effectiveness of their views in improving health care for children. To use theoretical knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, implement and evaluate play/audit materials to gain children, young people, and parents views. To work a minimum of 50% of the time within the clinical environments where children are seen. Work with children and young people to promote normality outside of treatment times, arranging activities and promote these activities. Focus on the needs of children, young people and their families and encourage them to identify and express those needs. Contribute to Protecting People at Risk Report to the Nurse in Charge any concerns about the child or young persons safety. Ensure measures are in place to not put children and young people at risk. You must at all times carry out duties and responsibilities with regards to the Trusts Safeguarding Policies and Procedures and ensure that they keep Safeguarding training updated. Gather, analyse, and report a limited range of data and information. Demonstrates an understanding of audit and development and how this influences quality of care for the children and young people. Analyse and report information obtained through appropriate planned activities, producing a quarterly report to feedback within the Directorate and Trust with action plans and recommendations. Maintain the integrity of the information using agreed methods and procedures. Reports the data/information in the required format and at the time agreed. The ability to take accurate records of meetings and produce minutes and action plans. Use of computer systems to produce audit and service review reports, including word processing, excel and use of charts, graphs etc. Collate and compile statistics for the service provision. You will be responsible for the development and production of patient information leaflets and the public website to ensure the information is regularly updated and maintained. Enable people to learn and development. To identify learning needs of the forum members and ways to meet these needs. Co-ordinate formal teaching sessions for forum members using internal and external resources. Identify relevant skills people to attend the forum to answer key questions the young people forum members may have on planning and delivering health care services. Provide learning and development to Child Health Staff to inform and support the service. Contribute to development, testing and reviewing concepts, models, methods, practices, products and equipment. Uses different play and consultation methods to ascertain children and young peoples views on the present and future service, including consultation events. Inputting into new methods of health care services and facilities and reviewing the outcomes based on Patient Experiences. To highlight trends of concerns and put forward new initiatives to improve the service provided.
