Wiltshire Police – Payroll Officer

  • 1 Permanent Position and 1 FTC contract for 2 years
  • 37 hour working week, part time hours considered (unable to accommodate less that 18.5 hpw)
  • Hybrid role (with the office being based at Police HQ, Devizes)
  • Salary £27,342pa rising to £28,161 after qualifying period


Are you an experienced Payroll professional, with an eye for detail and a ‘can-do’ mindset? Are you looking to join a small team where your skills and experience will be valued and welcomed? Wiltshire Police are currently seeking a Payroll Officer to join the team, to assist with the running of our monthly payroll processes. You will thrive in an environment where data is the key, working with police staff and officers to resolve queries, calculating and processing variable payments, including expense claims and overtime payments. This role will provide an opportunity to develop your payroll knowledge and support other team members with auditing and financial investigations.


Main duties will include:

  • Processing payroll data for approximately 2,400 employees
  • Checking authenticity and processing claims including overtime and expenses
  • Dealing with helpdesk enquiries, primarily relating to payroll
  • Preparing and evaluating payroll information
  • Assisting in with auditing and financial checks


The successful applicant will have:

  • Proven payroll experience, ideally within a large and complex environment
  • Knowledge and experience of payroll and HR administration processes
  • Sound knowledge of payroll and HR general issues which effect pay and pensions
  • Good knowledge of pay regulations surrounding taxation, national insurance, etc

  • Formal translation from a reputable source for any foreign language or symbol tattoos
  • Any paperwork relating to discharged debts, CCJ, bankruptcy etc
  • Deed poll certificate for any name changes
