PCB Assembler – The Role:
The PCB Assembler will assist in the manufacture of a wide range of PCBAs (Printed Circuit Board Assemblies) and related Sub-Assemblies, within the Instrument/PCBA Manufacturing Value Stream. The role is required to ensure that required PCBA’s are assembled and tested to the highest standards, on-time, in order to meet our customer requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out assembly and precise hand soldering of through-hole and odd-form PCB components (i.e. Pins, Connectors, Displays etc.) onto part-finished PCB Assemblies.
- Component soldering in accordance with relevant company and IPC Standards (Ideally IPC Level 3, or to possess the ability to achieve this standard).
- Carrying out testing of PCBA’s using in-house test equipment.
- Visually inspect PCB Assemblies to ensure that all components are installed & soldered correctly. Note: In-house vision equipment & Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment are also available to aid visual inspection.
- Operate key equipment & processes as required within the PCBA Manufacturing Department. This may include;
- Soldering stations & associated local exhaust ventilation equipment.
- Magnification and Visual Inspection Equipment.
- ESD equipment and test stations.
- PCB De-paneling equipment.
- PCB Test & Programming Equipment.
- Conformal Coat application, as required.
- Potting application, as required.
- Curing Ovens.
- To keep the PCB Assembly equipment & area clean and tidy always (5S &Safety).
- Produce all PCB variants via all the relevant in-house processes, & relevant IPC Standards
- Correct identification of through-hole components and their values.
- Maintain information through Microsoft Applications.
PCB Assembler – The Person:
Required skills:
- Experience gained working in a (Engineering based) Technical Manufacturing, business or similar.
- Solder and PCBA assembly training and/or experience (Ideally in accordance with IPC standards)
Desirable Skills:
- Safety & quality conscious.
- Punctual & reliable.
- Production experience of PCB Assembly, Soldering, Production Equipment & related Processes.
- Precision hand soldering of SMT (component packages down to 0201) and odd-form components in accordance IPC Standards (Ideally IPC Level 3, or possess the ability to achieve this standard with training).
- Excellent vision capability (including the ability to inspect and work under magnification) to enable precision work with very small components (i.e. 0201 SMT components).
- Possess a high degree of precise manual dexterity, and the physical ability to load/unload PCB Processes and Operate Inspection/Test Equipment, and to carry out other related calibration, test, cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Have excellent levels of attention to detail.
- Basic reading, written & oral communication skills in English language.
- Basic IT Literacy & Basic Numeracy
- Ability to read work instructions and related PCBA Procedures, Drawings/Schematics in English.
- Team player.
- Possess good initiative & work ethic.
- Ability & willingness to learn and develop.
- Ability to differentiate between colours for accurate identification of materials & components.
