How you'll make a difference

As a Placement Officer you will make a difference by working with the Fostering Team, identifying placements for Children and Young People with Foster Carers where they are unable to remain with their parents and or family.

What will you be doing?  
  • You will conduct the identification of in-house foster placements for children needing to come into care and who need support from our Looked After Children team.
  • It will be your duty to check referrals for placements for children needing to be looked after for completeness and anonymity, identifying placements which best match identified needs. 
  • Daily you’ll clarify information on referrals and discuss this information in detail with potential foster carers.  You will identify and co-ordinate all placement moves, including identifying respite carers for children needing respite from their current carers.
  • Within this role you will undertake the administrative duties in relation to running the duty system within the Family Placement Team as well as with internal and external colleagues.
  • You will maintain effective records to monitor placements and key information, including referrals, risk assessments, matching forms and liaison with all relevant parties.

What we need from you

  • You will hold a degree or working towards a relevant social care qualification or have suitable relevant experience.
  • You will have relevant knowledge and experience of working in an organisation that commissions and issues contracts including community engagement, service user engagement in social care or similar services. in Social Care, Health or the Voluntary Care Sector? 
  • Good interpersonal skills to establish a positive relationship with a wide variety of stakeholders, including effective influencing and persuasiveness.
  • Experience of working in a small team to effectively deliver a commissioning and contract function for social care services.
  • Proven IT skills in using spreadsheets, word processing and e-mail.
  • The ability to demonstrate clear and logical thinking in assessing challenges and problem solving.
  • Well organised with excellent time management skills.
  • Experience of using computerised databases and monitoring systems.
  • You will be capable of collating and presenting information.
  • You’ll have good communication skills, with experience of liaising professionally with others.
  • Ideally you will have experience of producing written reports.
Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
