Here at Buck, following a period of sustained growth and success, and whole host of award wins, we are looking to expand our actuarial consulting team in Edinburgh. If you have a handful of actuarial qualifications and experience of working in the UK Defined Benefit/Final Salary Pension world then we'd love to hear from you.


Within this role, you will take a lead role in delivering accurate, unrivaled consultancy services to a range of clients; relating to their Pension schemes. It is imperative that we get things right for the client; the team that you would be joining pride themselves on the accuracy and effectiveness of the service that they deliver to their clients, as well as their long-standing record of retaining clients from this!

You will be involved in a whole host of actuarial consultancy activities; a handful of which are outlined here:


Delivery/Subject Matter Expertise

  • Supervises phases of actuarial valuations and special projects
  • Prepares material for and attends client meetings; makes presentations to clients and prospects
  • Manages implementation of new services
  • Coordinates and reviews project assignments to ensure timely and accurate work product
  • Assists in the development and presentation of proposals for consulting services
  • Takes personal responsibility for the timeliness and quality of the work performed and for completing the work within budget
  • Able to explain and to help clients analyse the pros and cons of alternative means available for addressing client needs and to describe and, when appropriate, to demonstrate relevant software and related tools


Client/Market

  • Where necessary, maintains contact with clients regarding work product as well as client inquiries
  • Seeks to grow client relationships and proactively and continuously improve the efficiency of our services so that we remain competitive
  • Consults with other Buck lines of businesses regarding projects and/or expanded client relations


Contribution to Firm

  • Assists in hiring, training, and motivating junior level staff; provides feedback and helps to terminate employees who are not suited for their role or manage them to a more appropriate role , as necessary
  • Responsible for organising, delegating and supervising the work of junior level staff
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of types of benefits products available in the marketplace
  • Increases knowledge by participating and running training activities
  • Pursuing actuarial credentials through continual professional development.

To be a fit for this role, we're looking for applicants that have experience within a similar role in the UK Pensions world. Whether that's as an Analyst or a Consultant, or something else; we want to hear from you if you can demonstrate experience similar to what we have listed here. Being FIA or FFA qualified (or nearing this) would also be a requirement.
