Performing Arts and Theatre Technician– The Role:

Our Performing Arts department are looking for a full time Theatre Technician! In this exciting role, you will provide technician support to staff and students in the theatre and department. You can expect to set up and test sound equipment, props, stage hands, productions and lighting. You will strive to ensure that we can deliver the best learning environment to our Performing Arts students. You will maintain a clear inventory of equipment and costumes, and order supplies ad hoc when needed.

Performing Arts and Theatre Technician– Key Responsibilities:

- Serve as the main contact for staff regarding project work (Theatre Productions, Performances, Training Days, Student Awards, etc.)

- Manage the booking and efficient operation of studio spaces and the stage productions within the curriculum area

- Ensure the health and safety of all practical areas, verifying equipment safety before use

- Oversee the ordering of equipment for the Performing Arts curriculum, including administrative tasks (ordering, maintaining records, providing reports, and shopping as needed)

- Maintain an inventory of equipment, costumes, and other records as directed by the Curriculum Manager

- Conduct and write risk assessments, promoting high health and safety standards in collaboration with the college Health & Safety Advisor

- Collaborate with teaching staff on timetables, equipment needs, and performance space design

- Design, construct, and procure sets, staging, lighting, multimedia, and props for productions and events

- Plan and execute the setup and teardown of productions, ensuring timeliness, especially when external factors (e.g., exams) are involved

- Assist in the preparation and running of open days/evenings and college events such as GCSE exams

- Take on the responsibility for providing a safe environment and promoting children’s welfare

Performing Arts and Theatre Technician– You:

Essential:

- English and Maths at minimum Level 4

- Previous experience working in a busy theatre environment

- Literacy, computer literacy and numeracy as appropriate to the role

- Willing to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays

- A strong customer service focus and genuine desire to deliver an excellent experience every time

Desirable:

- Knowledge and use of theatre lighting and sound systems including focusing, plotting, problem solving and testing

- Knowledge and use of counterweight and hemp flying systems

- Experience of working with young people
- An understanding of security requirements in a technical environment including fire safety
