About the Role

As a Personal Advisor your role is to support young people who have left local authority care. You'll follow Dorset Council's Policy and laws to make sure they're well taken care of. Your role is to be their guide, helping them make smart choices for a successful adult life. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping vulnerable youth.

You will be based out of Dorchester County Hall, however, would be required to travel when necessary. Your schedule may also require flexibility, including work outside regular office hours to accommodate the needs of individual care leavers. The ideal candidate will experience of working with young people and laws relating to looking after children and care leavers.

What is the day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage a caseload of care leavers, offering guidance within legal guidelines.
  • Help care leavers gain life skills and develop personalized plans.
  • Coordinate plan reviews and update them as needed.
  • Collaborate with families and support networks.
  • Listen to care leavers' needs and preferences.
  • Advocate for care leavers and coordinate services.
  • Support care leavers in education and employment.
  • Ensure access to benefits and suitable accommodation.
  • Promote holistic health and access to services.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with regulations.
  • Participate in training and service planning.
  • Uphold equal opportunity and safety policies.
  • Assist in achieving service targets.
  • Contribute to team duties and child welfare if applicable.
  • Fulfil any other necessary duties as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English or Equivalent
  • Experience work with young people
  • Experience of planning, delivering, and evaluating work with young people.
  • Working knowledge of the laws relating to looked after children and care leavers, welfare benefits, housing, and homelessness legislation.
  • NVQ Level 4 professional qualification.
