Job description

Personal Lines Underwriting Excellence Specialist

  • A pivotal role in shaping the future of NFU Mutual’s underwriting processes and best practice as we go through a period of transformative change.

  • Be part of a supportive and collaborative environment that offers ongoing personal and professional development.

  • This is a hybrid role with 80% homeworking and 20% in either Stratford Upon Avon, York, Bristol, Glasgow, or Belfast.

About the role

Working as part of our Best Practice team within Head Office Underwriting, you’ll be at the forefront of driving operational excellence, influencing best practices, and supporting transformative initiatives across our Personal Lines book, including home, motor, and high net worth insurance. You’ll be able to work autonomously in identifying opportunities for improvement and actively drive positive changes in how underwriters operate on a day-to-day basis.

As a valued member of the team, you’ll:

  • Lead on initiatives such as the competency development framework, training material creation, and assessments, ensuring our Underwriters are equipped with the latest knowledge

  • Analyse referrals from the teams to identify trends and suggest improvements and will work closely with quality assurance teams to discuss findings from file reviews, ensuring that identified issues are addressed promptly.

  • Review and enhance underwriting manuals, especially as we transition to a new policy administration system.

  • Deliver and roll out training sessions and improvements to the wider business

A small part of your role will see you remain involved in referrals and escalated cases, providing your expertise to resolve complex underwriting issues, and so you’ll hold an underwriting licence.

About you

You’ll bring a comprehensive understanding of General Insurance practices and substantial experience in Personal Lines underwriting (either in home, motor, or high net worth), including experience dealing with underwriting referrals and escalated, more complex cases.

Additionally, you’ll be able to demonstrate:

  • An analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail

  • Effective communication skills, ideally having had written and delivered training sessions

  • A solutions-focused mindset with experience of being involved in projects and driving improvements

  • A collaborative approach – you’ll play a crucial role as a link between Head Office and Delivery teams

At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique.  We celebrate the creativity and innovation that comes from diverse perspectives and experiences and share a common vision of doing the right thing for our customers and employees.

We recognise that some candidates may experience barriers during  the recruitment process. So, we encourage candidates to discuss any adjustments or accommodations they need to be the best they can be throughout our recruitment process.

We're proud to be a Disability Confident Employer, a Race at Work and Women in Finance Charter signatory and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, disability, neurodiversity, gender, religion, marital status, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background.
