Job description

Chief Constables' Message
To deliver blended methods of training across the whole training curriculum. To support and promote the concepts of quality of service and diversity in policing to achieve the ideals set out by Surrey Police.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
Roles and Responsibilities National Police Training for Police Officers and Police Staff. - Design, develop and deliver training programmes for Public and Personal Safety
Training in accordance with the College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice and the National Police Chief's Council manuals.
Deliver initial training for new Police Officers and Police Staff. Deliver refresher training for Police Officers and Police Staff. Deliver First Aid training to Officers and Staff that is set out by ATACC.
Facilitate the Job Related Fitness Test for all Officers and other Specialist Roles in the Force.
To consistently monitor the delivery of learning to achieve the required level of knowledge, skills and behaviours and where necessary to identify, challenge and influence to ensure Officers and Staff adjust their behaviours.
To support and manage learning and assessment activities to ensure the achievement of accredited packages e.g. College of Policing programmes, produce lesson plans (as directed) which are to Force standard, reflect National Occupational standards and are regularly updated.
Respond to any problems being experienced by the individual learner and assist in identifying the cause and agreeing a suitable way forward, acting at all times in accordance with force policy.
Maintain and up date relevant paperwork on the Force systems. To recognise, supervise and challenge inappropriate behaviour displayed in the training environment in a professional manner to ensure that Force standards of behaviour are maintained.
Establish effective networks with key internal and external partners to implement collaborative approaches to learning and development. Maintains professional competence and practice to be able to deliver several L&D topics using varied learning styles and to obtain technical subject matter knowledge where required to maintain training standards across the force.
Other duties as determined by the Team leader and expected of the pay grade.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills together with the ability to facilitate the development of others and to influence and empower learners.
Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to facilitate workshops for individuals & teams.
The ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the concept of diversity, with the ability to embed this knowledge throughout all learning and development programmes.
Well-developed written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate records and reports.
Highly motivated with the ability to work on own initiative under minimal supervision. Is fully conversant with Microsoft Office products, with accurate keyboard skills.
It is essential that the post holder has a sound operational background within a policing environment together with a good knowledge of law and procedure.
The post holder will be required to pass a role related fitness test and it is essential that they maintain the required standard during the period of posting.
The role requires up-to-date knowledge of Public and Personal Safety Training.
The post holder must be willing to test, evaluate and make recommendations about specialist equipment in order to support the effective deployment of operational staff and officers in identified roles.
The post holder may be required to provide professional advice and expert opinion to the Force.
The post holder is required to assist the department with the monitoring of kit and equipment that the team are responsible for ensuring it is fit for purpose and managed effectively.
Additional Requirements
The job holder will be required to undertake weekend working (1 weekend in 4). Unsocial hours will be paid as applicable.
CPD - To ensure their own CPD (continuous professional development) is kept up-to-date and recorded.
Travel - Individuals must be prepared to occasionally travel across Surrey & Sussex (which can be claimed)
The post holder must be willing to undertake specialist courses to meet the demands of the department and Force, as deemed appropriate by the department head.

1. Who is the job holder likely to communicate with on a regular basis and to what extent are they expected to influence, persuade and motivate others?
Individuals will regularly communicate with key stakeholders such as PSD/Custody and divisional officers to understand key trends and issues to enable the training to support what is required.Motivation of officers and staff they are training including Specials
2. Please give examples of the main problems and challenges the job holder will typically come across in their day to day role and describe how they would be expected to resolve them.
Key issues tend to be officers and staff who struggle with completion of the JRFT and some elements of the practical OST training. It is expected that we would support them and encourage them to enable them to achieve and pass their assessment wherever possible. Regularly, course numbers can be low and the trainers would need to adapt their approach to the training to flex and accommodate where appropriate.
3. To what extent does the job holder have discretion to take action/make decisions?
It is the responsibility of the trainer to identify any risks around staff and officers carrying out training due to injuries. The trainer has a duty of care to each individual and would be expected to make a decision as to whether they are fit to partake in the training.
4. Please explain the different parts of the organisation this role impacts upon and why. Please also highlight if it involves any partnership working with external stakeholders.
It is expected that all trainers give high quality and relevant training at all times as the staff and officers attending will then be putting this into practise to keep them and the public safe. Partnership working with other forces and local partners such as Street Angels.
5. All role holders are expected to know, understand and act within the ethics and values of Surrey Police and Sussex Police. The Competency and Values Framework (CVF) has six competencies that are clustered into three groups. Under each competency are three levels that show what behaviours will look like in practice - this role is Level 2 of the CVF framework.
