Job purpose/summary Reporting to the Pharmacy Workforce Development Services Manager, the post holder will: Provide operational and strategic leadership to the Education and Workforce Development of Pharmacy Technician and support staff within the Pharmacy Patient Services Team. Help to set the strategic direction for the technical element of the Pharmacy Workforce Development. Ensure medicines optimisation and staff leadership from a professional perspective across the pharmacy Workforce Development team. Seek to implement cost effective staffing solutions that consistently meet patient and service needs. Act as the key link between Workforce Development and management of medicines in ward areas Lead all Workforce Development for Pharmacy Technicians and support staff, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidance. Ensure that the patient experience is a primary focus of all technical and support staff in MMPS Develop and review practices and procedures for the development of the technical and support staff workforce within MMPS, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidance. Establish a competency framework for technical and support staff working within MMPS, ensuring that all technical and support staff are appropriately trained to perform the range of duties required for service delivery. Support a review of skill mix and consequent development of a modernised technical workforce within MMPS. Champion the integration and deployment of staff within MMPS to ensure skill mix efficiencies are maximised to enable provision of a seven day service. Develop quality assurance standards for technical services and audit processes to demonstrate compliance with these standards. Lead the implementation of new Information technology systems and procedures within pharmacy Workforce Development team. Perform the role of Lead Technician at weekends and Bank Holidays; provide professional sessional cover in operational areas and be a named member on the Pharmacy MAJAX call out. Represent LTHT regionally and nationally in the development of innovative ways of working. Review the deployment of technical and support staff relative to the needs of the Workforce Development team. Lead the development of new integrated models of care comprising the innovative use of technical and support staff. Authorised signatory for registration of MMPSA staff on educational programmes including apprenticeships, discretionary education spending (E&T budget) and salaries and wages documentation Line management and supervision of Pharmacy Technicians Higher Level As part of the Pharmacy Workforce Development Management team, support the Pharmacy Patient Services Manager in the development and planning of the service; investigation and actions from errors and incidents and respond to audits. To work closely with other MMPS technical and support service managers to ensure the strategic direction of the Dispensary service supports operational areas. Organisational chart Chief Pharmacist/Clinical Director Medicines Management & Pharmacy Services Associate Lead Clinician (Pharmacy Workforce Development) Pharmacy Workforce Development Services Manager (Pharmacy Workforce Development) Pharmacy Technician Team Manager (Workforce Development) (This Post) Specialist Pharmacy Technicians (Workforce Development) Learners on programmes Principal duties & areas of responsibility Responsible for leading review of practice and procedures for MMPS Workforce Development, working across the Trust ensuring that these are in compliance with current legislation and standards. Work with MMPS Lead Clinician, Workforce Development, to review and plan service needs and developments, ensuring adequate resource is available and all necessary training is in place. Allocation of staffing resource to ensure Workforce Development activities are covered. Make judgement on staff allocation where there is a varied and competing demand on the service. Analyse data to ensure the staffing allocation is appropriate. Develop systems to ensure that effective communication arrangements are in place to enable briefing of procedural change and review as it arises. Responsible for the establishment of a defined range of competencies for staff. Identifies assessment criteria and produces training schedules and coordinates the delivery of both induction and refresher training. Coordinates, supervises and supports staff involved in delivering training and verifies that training is provided in a consistent manner, is documented and is to the required standards. Communicates with ward staff on a daily basis to assess their medicine requirements for individual patients. Responsible for liaising with patients, carers and ward staff in order to resolve problems relating to medication errors, untoward incidents and complaints. Leads the implementation of new IT systems within MMPS Workforce Development. Develop and implement new policies required in line with new automation. Co-ordinates the reporting and investigation of errors and incidents within the Pharmacy Workforce Development Team. Produces a monthly report for the Pharmacy Patient Services Manager and ensures that action plans are documented and followed through. Ensures that medicines are stored safely securely, are in date and suitable for use. Ensures dispensary storage is appropriate and monitored. Manages Pharmacy Technicians and support staff Education and Training ensuring they have appropriate induction, regular appraisals, personal development plans and challenging but realistic objectives. Conducts sickness and disciplinary reviews as required. Ensures Trust Absence Management policy is adhered to and that staff absence is reported and return to work interviews conducted in a timely manner. Ensures regular team briefings and meetings are held and that there is good communication for all staff using a variety of means, written and verbal. Provide operational support to the MMPS, including seasonal supervision and accuracy checking. This will usually be on a planned basis. Maintain high professional standards at all times and ensure compliance with statutory regulations concerning Workforce Development/education and Health and Safety at work are complied with. Work with MMPS Lead Clinician, Workforce Development, in developing capacity plan and risk matrix to inform the deployment of technical and support staff within the service. Provide professional leadership for technical staff working within Workforce Development. Participate in regular audits and review of the service and take action to remedy any deficiencies to continually improve the quality of the service. Contributes to pharmacy service developments and ensures that change is managed smoothly in relation to area of responsibility. Develop efficient communication channels with the rest of pharmacy and key customers to ensure a good understanding of the service and the roles and responsibilities of staff. Performs the role of Lead Technician at weekends and Bank Holidays and is a named member on the Pharmacy MAJAX call out. Dispenses and accuracy checks medicines during operational support slots and when performing the Lead Technician role.
