A Vacancy at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
Are you an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician or Medicines management technician looking for greater specialty or to further develop your career? Are you a newly qualifying technician who would like to work in a children's or women's hospital?
We are looking for one accredited checking technician and /or medicines management technician to join the dynamic Women’s & Children’s Pharmacy Team. These posts are ideal development posts for newly qualifying technicians as they provide a clear route of progression from band 4 to band 5 but are also open to staff wishing to work part time.
The successful candidates will work primarily in the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children dispensary and wards but will provide cover for the St Michael's pharmacy. Candidates will be responsible for ensuring the day to day running of the dispensary under direction of a band 6 lead Pharmacy Technician whilst also supervising and mentoring trainee staff.
For staff looking for part time flexible working the conditions of flexibility are that staff must work a minimum of 22.5 hours a week (max 37.5hours a week) across a minimum of 3 days between Monday and Friday. Staff will be required to have a regular pattern of work agreed although there is some flex (provided the service is staffed sufficiently) for occasional change such as moving a day of work to help accommodate a family commitment.
1. Acting as an accredited Checking technician , checking the accuracy of dispensed items in the Children’s Pharmacy, St Michaels pharmacy or BRI, ensuring the accuracy of dispensing and liaising with staff to rectify and record any errors in dispensing identified through this process. Training for checking competency can be provided if not already achieved.
2. Answering queries on common drug availability questions and use using ready to hand information sources e.g. BNF for Children. Referring to a pharmacist more complex enquiries
3. Stock Management. Maintaining appropriate stock levels of medicines in the dispensaries to ensure that a suitable range & quantity are available to meet the needs of patients within the hospital.
4. Maintaining Accredited Checking Technician or developing Medicines Management Training qualification by undertaking the necessary levels of checking or MM activity and collecting evidence as required at the appropriate time as to ensure you always maintain your checking qualification
Normal hours of our working day are 8.30-5pm but options exist for staff to work between 8-5.30pm. School hours or some longer / shorter days are therefore possible as is working more on one week and less the next. All dispensers are required to contribute to weekend work (1 shift (Sat or Sun) every six weeks) but staff get a day off in Lieu and can request which days they take (although agreement is still subject to staffing levels).
