Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients for diagnostic testing, transfusions, research, or blood donations.
- Ensure proper patient identification, specimen labelling, and specimen handling procedures to maintain sample integrity and prevent errors.
- Follow established protocols and safety guidelines to minimize the risk of infection and ensure a safe and comfortable experience for patients during blood collection procedures.
- Verify patient information, medical history, and test requisitions to ensure accuracy and completeness of orders.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper disposal of biohazardous waste and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, laboratory staff, and administrative personnel to facilitate efficient specimen collection, processing, and transportation.
Requirements:
- Certification or training in phlebotomy from an accredited institution.
- Proven experience working as a Phlebotomist in a healthcare or clinical setting, with proficiency in venipuncture and capillary blood collection techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to follow standard operating procedures and maintain quality assurance standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, specimen processing procedures, and laboratory safety practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workload demands.
