Physical Education Instructor
- PCO

Up to £30,750.00
Permanent (Full-Time, 40 Hrs)
Desirable if you are an experienced Prison Officer, but if you have a passion for fitness we will put you through all relevant custodial courses!
Here at Serco, we are looking for a Physical Education Instructor
- PCO to join the team at our new state of the art Category C prison, HMP Fosse Way.
The role of a Physical Education Instructor – PCO is to Provide comprehensive sports, fitness and well-being programmes for prisoners and staff. Lead, teach and control prisoners in a full and varied programme of recreational and Educational PE activities to meet the needs and interests of the total prisoner population. Promote and organise special events and to help prisoners establish firmer family and parental links as part of ongoing work to help Reducing reoffending.
The successful candidate will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities, and duties:

Carry out AFCs and perimeter fence security checks in accordance with Policy and Local Security Strategy (LSS).

Carry out security checks of all tools and equipment in accordance with Policy and LSS.

Collect and supervise movement of prisoners between housing unit and Sports Centre.

Collect and supervise movement of Category C prisoners in accordance with the LSS.
-
Ensure correct gymnasium roll is reported to communications room.

Maintain constant supervision of all prisoners whilst undertaking physical activity.

Carry out a rub down search of all prisoners leaving the Sports Centre.

Instruct prisoners in all relevant Health & Safety requirements and record training in F2055.

Store all chemicals/cleaning liquids correctly. Instruct Sports Centre cleaners in safe systems of work in accordance with the company’s safety policy and supervise cleaners.

Carry out equipment maintenance in accordance with the maintenance schedule.

Undertake training to ensure competence to deliver a full and varied programme of activities.

Plan, organise and deliver structured Physical Education courses.

Undertake Basic and Key Skills instruction, cross mapped to prisoner PE activities, as directed by the PEI Custodial Operations Manager.

Promote personal fitness objectives for both staff and prisoners.

Maintain a daily record of all PE activities and of individual Physical Education attendance.

Prepare and maintain class lists.
-
Supervise staff using PE facilities, advising and motivating them in personal health and fitness.

Instruct all new Prison Custody Officers in Physical Education whilst undergoing initial training.

Support and complement all programme activities when required to do so.

Undertake duties as a Prison Custody Officer when required to do so.

Undertake specific tasks and duties as assigned by the Physical Education Custodial Operations Manager.

Be competent at using CMS system
What you will need to do the role

Desirable: National Governing body Awards/Physical Education degree.
-
Minimum: 1 year Prisoner Custody Officers certificate.

Wide ranging in various sports and in environments, which require organisation and control of large groups ideally in similar disciplines environment.

Some knowledge of a wide range of sports fitness issues and sports coaching.

Excellent team work and organisational skills
-
Ability to command and control large groups.
-
Implement security procedures rigorously in a recreational environment.
-
Able to plan, organise and deliver structured courses and recreational sports.
-
Self-motivated and able to motivate others.
-
Present and project a positive image of health and fitness

Computer literate
