The Purpose:

The role will focus on delivering a physical development programme to the Manchester United Women’s First Team while building the programme and philosophy of work with the growing team across the academy phases. This involves the delivery of comprehensive physical preparation pro-grammes, based on sound strength & conditioning and sports science principles. A key requirement is to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, in alignment with established practices implemented by Manchester United Physical Performance department, contributing to the development of a world-class high-performance environment. Key stakeholders will be the Head coach, Head of Women’s Football and MUFC Head of Physical Performance.

The Role:

Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with the MDT to plan and execute a coordinated programme to maximise player development and performance.

Training Strategy Development:

  • Conduct individual needs assessments through comprehensive profiling and monitoring.
  • Design, plan, and implement targeted gym-based development programs tailored to both the squad and individual players.
  • Support coaching staff to plan and deliver squad and individual field-based sessions as part of holistic football programme.
  • Integrate these programs within a holistic training framework to improve player Physical Performance and robustness.

Injury Rehabilitation Coordination:

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to design and deliver personalised reconditioning pathways.
  • Ensure these pathways effectively support injured players in safely returning to high-performance levels.

Role Development and Knowledge Enhancement:

  • Stay abreast of the latest sports performance research to inform and evolve the club’s Research & Innovation (R&I) strategy, thereby continuously refining the team's performance strategies.
  • Oversee and develop the Physical Performance staff, including full-time, part-time, and student interns, to advance the Physical Performance services across the women's First Team and academy levels.

The Person:

  • Post graduate degree in sports science/S&C or related area.
  • UKSCA Accredited Strength & Conditioning Coach (or international equivalent).
  • BASES accreditation or evidence of working towards.
  • Experience in the provision of strength and conditioning services, including coaching players and coaches to improve performance.
  • Experience working with and preparing elite players for competition.
  • Experience using, interpreting and presenting data using different platforms (field and gym monitoring).
  • Competent IT skills, particularly data handling and visualisation.
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary performance team, excellent communication skills, high enthusiasm, organised and confident.
  • Understanding of learning, development, and high performance with a proven ability to create optimum learning environments for players.Awareness of diversity and equality challenges in football.
  • Empathy and commitment to the long-term development of the game.
  • Willingness to work weekends and be flexible with fluctuations in scheduling.
