Following the successful introduction of Physician Associates into the Emergency Surgery team, applications are invited for a Physician’s Associate (PA) in Emergency, General Surgery & Urology based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The successful candidates will work within the wider general surgical team, and be involved in both elective and emergency work.

- To improve the efficiency of the emergency General Surgery team and support the emergency surgery pathways and clinical workload
- To assess, clerk and review patients that are referred to surgery via the Emergency Department or General Practice
- To participate, and lead where appropriate, in ward rounds
- To perform and assist with practical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulas, blood gases, urinary catheters, incision and drainage, and support the booking of procedures and investigations as appropriate
- To participate in multidisciplinary meetings
- To support our general surgical colleagues by identifying and referring suitable patients for review in the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care unit
- To facilitate the safe and timely discharge of patients
- To contribute to the achievement and maintenance of key performance indicators
- To act as a consistent member of the team and to help in handover processes and continuity of care for our patients
- To participate in teaching and quality improvement projects – developing and embedding new and innovative practices and policies
- To provide excellent urgent and emergency care
