Job description

Physiotherapy Apprentice Role/ Stroke Rehab Assistant Band 3/4 depending on experience.

You will be working closely with experienced qualified clinicians in stroke to deliver the therapy treatment plans and support patients to achieve their goals.
You will be supported to attend University East London to complete your physiotherapy degree as well as time out for clinical placements.
You must have some relevant experience of working as a therapy assistant and need to be aware of the roles of the different disciplines. Experience of working in a community setting is also desirable.
You must also have the necessary qualifications to meet the entry criteria for the course. UEL entrance requirements are as follows:
  • Level 2 Functional Skills or GCSE: Maths and English grade C/4 and above.
  • 120 UCAS points, this can be demonstrated by either of the following:
1. A - Levels: Has to include biology or chemistry at a grade B
2. BTEC: Applied Science extended diploma Level 3
3. Access Course - They will accept an access course (to higher education). 60 Credits minimum, with 45 credits at level 3 and 24 credits and level 3science distinctions (biology, chemistry and physics).
We would also like to see evidence of your understanding of the Physiotherapist role.
Please ensure that you meet these minimum entry requirement before you apply, as applications that do not meet these criteria will not be progressed. Please include English and maths qualifications at level 2 or GCSE as well as your other qualifications.

Criteria
Essential
Qualifications, training, knowledge and experience
  • Level 2 Functional Skills or GCSE (Grade C 4 or above) in English and Maths
  • Hold a level 3 qualification, e.g. A-levels to include biology or chemistry at B grade, Access or NVQ/advanced apprenticeship. International Baccalaureate – 28 points including a minimum of 15 points at Higher Level, must include Biology and Chemistry at Higher Level

  • Knowledge or experience of work in a health care setting
  • Understanding of the role of Physiotherapy
  • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
Desirable:
  • Evidence of ongoing professional Development and working in a Physio support role alongside qualified Physiotherapist
  • Level 5 Foundation Degree in health related subject
  • Work experience in NHS or Care setting.
  • Willingness to undertake ongoing professional development, participate in clinical supervision and individual performance review process
  • Develop and improve practical and theoretical knowledge, competence and skills throughout the Physiotherapy Training Programme and maintain all evidence required
Communication skills
  • Working towards providing and receive complex, sensitive information requiring tact or persuasive skills; e.g. test results; receives sensitive patient/client-related information
  • Working towards providing advice, instruction or training to groups, e.g. exercise groups, education to carers or family members.
  • Working towards having the ability to communicate information regarding the patient’s medical condition and individualised treatment programmes in an easy to understand, reassuring way, enabling and motivating where necessary, this includes the patient, family, children and carers
  • Communicates with patients/clients and carers, using empathy and reassurance and where there are barriers to understanding learning to manage these accordingly, e.g. learning disabilities or language, working with service users who could be hostile or highly emotional who have complex needs and may be vulnerable.
  • Communicate sensitive information effectively and improve communication using a range of strategies with regard to person centred care, duty of candour, equality and diversity.
  • Report any accidents or incidents and raise any concerns as per organisational policy
  • Ensure clear, concise, accurate and legible records and all communication is maintained in relation to care delivered adhering to local and national guidance
  • Ensure ability to manage electronic records system taking cognisance of need to protect access (ID, passwords, swipe cards)
  • Ensure all service user related information is treated sensitively and adhere to the principals of confidentiality at all times
  • Attending and actively participating in unit/service meetings
  • Act as associate worker responsible for specific physiotherapy interventions
