Job description

NB: Police Vacancy - only for candidates with a minimum of 5 years continuous UK address history. Please note that this vacancy is subject to a strict security vetting procedure.

 

This is a requirement for a PIP 1 investigator, either in the Domestic Abuse team (where you will be working to protect some of the most vulnerable people in communities from domestic related abuse) or the Neighbourhood Policing Investigation teams where you will be supporting response teams to deal with investigations and persons in custody.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Carry your own case load of PIP1 (professionalising investigation programme level 1) cases from reporting to trial and everything in-between. This will involve taking statements from complainants and witnesses, interviewing suspects, gathering other evidence such as CCTV and phone data, presenting the case file to the CPS (crown prosecution service) and then attending court as the officer in the case (OIC).
  • Your overall aims will be to safeguard individuals, bring perpetrators to justice and prevent further harm through high quality investigations, perseverance, and attention to detail.
  • Responsible for working alongside other teams within the Police(forensics, custody, ID unit, other investigative departments) as well as partners (Adult and Children’s social care, Domestic abuse outreach, MARAC,CPS) to ensure that your investigations are to the highest standard of evidential quality and compliant with all relevant legislation – such as PACE(Police and Criminal Evidence Act) and CPIA (Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act).

Qualifications:

 

  • PIP 1 qualified and PIP 2 is desirable  A full and valid driving licence is required to fulfil your duties

Knowledge:

 

  • A working knowledge of criminal law and of the criminal justice system. Knowledge of custody procedures in relation to prisoner detention and processing (desirable) 
  • An understanding of Data Protection issues in order to ensure that information is handled and filed correctly (desirable) 
  • An understanding of the effect of other legislation such as GDPR, Equality Act as well as the impact of diversity and inclusion to an effective team

Experience:

 

  • Proven experience in investigation matters and of conducting interviews to a high standard. 

Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate and empathise with different communities.
  • Proven research skills, an attention to detail as well as the ability to innovate and think outside the box (desirable)
  • The ability to operate a computer database system and/or the willingness to undertake training and become proficient in the use of Police systems.
  • The ability to work effectively unsupervised and as part of a team.
