N359 Travel Advisor - Role Profile
Following a successful bid to Government, Plymouth City Council is one of eleven local authorities across England currently participating in a pilot scheme funded from the Active Travel Social Prescribing Fund. Our success has created an exciting opportunity within our Sustainable Transport Team for a committed and enthusiastic person to join us as a Travel Advisor.
The Travel Advisor will join our Sustainable Transport department as a member of our Plymotion team to help deliver our Social Prescribing pilot project whereby GPs, nurses and other primary care professionals can refer people to a range of local, non-clinical services to support their health and wellbeing. Now in year two of three, and building on the success of our well-established Plymotion programme, this role will entail providing one to one support to people at their homes and at events, through giving Personalised Travel Planning (PTP) advice and providing incentives to help people get out and about to improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and reduce social isolation, while helping Plymouth to become a more sustainable city. A key element of the duties of post holders will be offering support to clients who have been referred through the Social Prescribing pathway, as well as to the wider residential communities located in the more deprived parts of Plymouth.
Through the PTP residential programme, the Plymotion team will visit 12,000 homes over the next 18 months, engaging with upwards of 3,720 individuals throughout the delivery period, and working with external partners to ensure that participants in the programme have access to all the services they may need. These include adult cycle training, bike maintenance, led bike rides, led walks, and providing assistance in active travel challenges, as well as using incentives to encourage participation, all of which are being made available through specialist providers and funded through the programme.
The post provides an exciting opportunity to make a real impact on improving the quality of people’s lives, whilst at the same time helping to build a city that is greener, healthier and more resilient through encouraging more active and sustainable travel.
If you enjoy talking to people, have a passion for encouraging people to switch to more sustainable transport, and understand the importance of making it easier for people to access work, education, healthcare and leisure opportunities by sustainable transport, at the same time as improving their wellbeing, we’d love to hear from you.
The person we are looking for will have a professional approach, with excellent communication skills, be a team player, and have an ability to absorb and effectively communicate information accurately to different audiences. Good local knowledge would also be helpful.
The successful applicant will be expected to use sustainable transport when delivering PTP, and the post may require, from time to time, some weekend working.
The post is available for immediate start (subject to all pre-employment checks).
Training on how to deliver PTP will be provided.
