Planning Assistant

The Development Management Team falls within the Planning Service and work alongside colleagues in Enforcement and Planning Policy, as well as Building Control, within the Regeneration and Environment Directorate.

The Development Management Team consists of 3 Development Managers, Senior Planning Officers, Planning Officers and Planning Assistants, as well as a team of Planning Support Officers.

The post holder will manage a caseload of planning applications including providing pre-application advice. You will be required to provide support on enforcement cases, monitor and discharge pre-commencement conditions and deal with general enquiries and written representation appeals.

You should be able to work within tight timescales to deal effectively and efficiently with a caseload of planning applications and prepare written reports and make recommendations for determination under officer delegated powers and to the Planning Board. Where necessary you will prepare and present applications or enforcement cases to the Chair and Vice Chair of the Planning Board.

The post holder will provide written and verbal planning guidance/advice to prospective developers, the general public, other service areas within the authority, elected members, statutory and other organisations – on householder and other small scale development proposals and other related matters.

The role will involve assisting Senior Planners/Planners with more complex/major applications and appeals where necessary.

You will be required to deal with appeals.

You will be required to carry out analysis and interpretation of different types of data from a variety of sources and produce management information as required.
