Planning Manager

Newtownards / Bangor

 

In partnership with our client, CPL is currently recruiting for a Planning Manager for a food manufacturing company in the Newtownards area.

About the Planning Manager Job

 

The Planning Manager job is instrumental in delivering exceptional products to customers while optimising production efficiency, demand forecasting accuracy, inventory management, and overall performance.

 

As Planning Manager, directly reporting to the Operations Manager, you will hold a pivotal role in orchestrating the planning and execution of manufacturing processes. Working in collaboration with Sales, Procurement and Operations, you will plan to optimise factory efficiencies through meticulous production scheduling, demand forecasting, and assist in raw material/finished goods inventory management to ensure Site KPI of Delivery on Time and In Full is met. Your contributions will play a critical role in maintaining our clients reputation for supplying superior products and delivering them on time to valued customers.

Main Responsibilities

 

1. Strategic Production Planning: 

 - Lead the development of comprehensive short and long-term production schedules that optimise equipment utilisation, minimise downtime, and align with sales forecasts. 

 - Ensuring efficient optimal production runs while maintaining appropriate stock levels for each SKU.

2. Demand Forecasting and Inventory Management:

 - Oversee demand forecasting activities, partnering with sales, procurement, and operations teams to accurately predict future product demand.

 - Incorporate demand forecasts into production plans to optimise resource allocation and inventory control.

 - Identify and resolve, in collaboration with the wider team, issues of over or undercapacity that may either affect DOTIF or cost base by proactively managing capacity utilisation.

3. Efficiency Enhancement:

 - Analyse production data to identify opportunities for improving factory efficiency and cost reduction via effective scheduling alignment.

 - Develop and implement strategies to streamline production processes, minimise changeovers, and reduce downtime.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

 - Collaborate closely with Operations, Supply Chain and Sales teams to communicate production schedules and resolve scheduling conflicts.

 - Work with quality assurance teams to ensure production adheres to required standards via optimised scheduling to minimise allergen and Provenance cross contamination exposure.

5. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

 - Monitor production performance against plans, identifying deviations and implementing corrective actions to schedules as required to fulfil DOTIF and Lean Manufacturing/ cost KPI’s.

 - Generate insightful reports and analyses related to production efficiency, stock levels, and scheduling performance.

6. Team Leadership and Development:

 - Positive, collaborative contribution to Factory team, Leading by example and to company values.  

 - Providing guidance, coaching, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

 - Enhance team capabilities through training and development initiatives.

7. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

 - Develop and track KPIs related to DOTIF, production efficiencies, inventory turnover, demand forecast accuracy, and cost savings.

 - Utilise KPIs to assess performance, identify trends, and implement improvement strategies.

 

What you will need to Succeed:

 

·        Relevant Qualification in supply chain management, operations, or a related field is preferred.

·        Substantial experience in production planning, demand forecasting, and inventory management, with a proven track record in the FMCG/ Food industry.

·        Strong understanding of production processes, supply chain logistics, and inventory control strategies.

·        Proficiency in using advanced planning software and MRP/ERP systems for production scheduling and inventory management. For example, SAGE 200 or similar.

·        Analytical mindset to interpret production data, demand forecasts, and identify strategic opportunities.

·        Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams.

·        Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and develop a team.

·        Problem-solving aptitude to address complex production challenges and drive decision-making.

·        Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
