Job Description

We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. From fragrance to car care, clothing and pots and pans, our General Merchandise team delivers all the non-food items for Sainsbury’s, Habitat and Argos customers. This multi-brand environment means you get to work across most areas. You can also be a pioneer, because the team believes in being brave, iterating and learning as they go. They also develop deep connections to other departments, which opens up a lot of different career opportunities for you. What’s certain is that you’ll spend time on the shop floor to get closer to customers, and bring a broad perspective and the full support of your manager with you wherever you decide to develop next.

Please note: This role requires experience in Merchandise Planning.

Non Food - Merchandiser
Why join us
Joining our General Merchandise team at Sainsbury's as a Merchandiser gives you the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and customer-focused organisation. As a key contributor to our merchandising strategy, you will play a vital role in driving profitable growth within your category/ranges. You will have the autonomy to make decisions and adapt quickly in a fast-paced retail environment, while continuously learning and growing. With a strong focus on collaboration and stakeholder engagement, you will build relationships and contribute to the overall success of the team. At Sainsbury's, we value work-life balance and offer flexibility in how, where, and when you work, ensuring that you have the space to thrive both professionally and personally. Join us and be a part of an organisation that is committed to delivering an exceptional customer experience and driving positive change in the industry.

What you'll do
As a Merchandiser for our General Merchandise team at Sainsbury's, you will play a crucial role in executing a customer-facing, multi-channel merchandising strategy for your category/ranges, aligning with the overall commercial strategy to drive profitable growth. This involves analysing markets, customer profiles, and supplier knowledge to develop the category/range framework and create budgets that support the strategy. You will continuously review performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and contribute to trade reviews and post-implementation reviews. Managing stock levels, supply chain logistics, and supplier relationships will be essential, along with collaborating with cross-functional teams on activities such as space optimisation and joint business planning. Additionally, you will prioritise inbound and outbound stock flow, ensuring merchandising milestones are achieved within the critical path to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Your commercial acumen, ability to work under pressure, and strong analytical and planning skills will contribute to the success of your category/ranges.

Who you are
As a Merchandiser for Sainsbury's General Merchandise team, you are a highly motivated and commercially astute professional with a strong track record in merchandising within a non-food multi-channel retail environment. You thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic retail setting, where you have the ability to think quickly and make decisions that align with the overall commercial strategy. With your excellent analytical skills and customer-centric mindset, you are able to develop category/range frameworks, create budgets, and drive profitable growth. Your strong communication and influencing skills enable you to build relationships with key stakeholders, collaborate cross-functionally, and ensure the successful implementation of merchandising milestones. With a focus on continuous improvement and a dedication to delivering results, you contribute to the overall success and customer experience of Sainsbury's General Merchandise division.

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new — whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:
Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to save 10% on your shopping online and instore at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat, and we regularly increase the discount to 15% at points during the year. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 10% of salary, depending on how we perform.
Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance and you can buy up to an additional week's holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, salary advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.
Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.
Please see www.sainsburys.jobs for a range of our benefits (note, length of service and eligibiity criteria may apply).
