DIRECT APPLICANTS ONLY

Who are we:

Ceres is a leading developer of clean energy technology, electrolysis for the creation of green hydrogen and fuel cells for power generation. Its licensing model has seen it establish partnerships with some of the world's largest companies, such Bosch, Doosan, Shell and Weichai.

Ceres' solid oxide platform technology supports greater electrification of our energy systems and produces green hydrogen at high-efficiencies as a route to decarbonise emissions-intensive industries such as steelmaking, cement, and future fuels. Ceres is listed on the London Stock Exchange ("LSE") (LSE: CWR) and is classified by the LSE Green Economy Mark, which recognises listed companies that derive more than 50% of their activity from the green economy.

Ceres is an inspiring place to work, and our people care deeply about our purpose, our technology, our partners, and each other. We offer employees the opportunity to collaborate creatively to solve complex problems and challenges, to experiment and innovate and push the boundaries of our technology, within a supportive culture and work environment that allows them to learn, grow, achieve great things and be the very best version of themselves.

Purpose of the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plant Safety Engineer to support Ceres growth in SOEC large-scale electrolyser development, with a focus on DRI steel, green ammonia, and synthetic fuels. You will be specialising in the safe handling of steam, hydrogen, and oxygen at a plant scale.

You will be responsible for advising on the design, implementation, and oversight of safety protocols to mitigate potential hazards, identifying risks and mitigations, as well as compliance requirements associated with industry standards.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Liaise with licensees, EPCs and end users in the development of interface risks and mitigations as well as overall plant requirements
  • Develop and implement safety protocols for the handling and use of H2 and O2, including isolation measures and shut-off systems
  • Recommend and oversee the use of materials compatible with high temperature H2 and O2, ensuring the integrity of equipment and infrastructure
  • Identify and classify hazardous areas and oversee adherence to safety standards
  • Creation, maintenance, and verification of safety cases compliant with all regional regulatory requirements
  • Provide guidance on the selection and installation of pressure relief systems to prevent over-pressurization and equipment failure
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations, appropriate for the regions considered
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to communicate safety protocols effectively and provide expertise on Plant Safety matters
  • Stay informed about advancements in safety technology and industry standards, incorporating relevant updates into existing safety protocols

Knowledge and skills required for the role:

Studies show that some groups of people are less likely to apply for a role unless they meet 100% of the requirements. If you feel you have some (but not all) of the requirements, we are still very interested in hearing from you.

  • Degree in Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in safety management are a plus
  • Proven experience in industrial Safety Engineering, with a focus on safety at an industrial scale
  • In-depth knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to O2 and H2, including ASTM and ASME, and other relevant guidelines
  • Strong logical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing safety protocols for hazardous materials
  • Familiarity with emergency response planning
  • Knowledge of fire prevention and suppression systems specific to O2 and H2 environments
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
