Job description

Thames Water is by some margin the largest of the Water and Sewerage Companies (WaSCs). We serve 15 million customers, getting on for a quarter of the country’s population. We deliver life's essential service so our customers, communities and the environment can thrive and operate across a huge geographical footprint. Our aspiration is to restore Thames Water to its rightful position as one of the leading companies. Our Turnaround Plan does not try to do everything at once, everywhere, but establishes a step-by-step approach, focusing in the first instance on those areas of performance which matter most to our customers and our stakeholders and is the foundation on which we will build the recovery.

To enable the delivery of our refocused Turnaround Plan, we have put in place a Turnaround Management Office (“TMO”) which will act as the ‘engine’ for coordinating delivery of the 20 initiatives that make up the plan, providing structured prioritisation, coordination, governance, reporting and timely communications. While already functioning and operational (with external third-party support), we are now seeking to transition the TMO leadership to Thames Water as part of an ongoing investment in building internal change capability. In support of this, we are creating several new roles to enable successful delivery of our turnaround.

What you’ll be doing as a PMO Analyst

  • Supports the TMO Planning & Governance Manager on day-to-day basis, taking direction on assessed priorities.
  • Supports the wider TMO team as required, providing high quality analysis.
  • Contributes towards the definition and administrative maintenance of TMO Handbook standards and best practice to ensure that the TMO and initiatives succeed and are delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • Leads and assists in the collation of resources and data to ensure that meeting/ programme packs and other reporting materials can be produced on an efficient and timely basis.
  • Ensures that good documentation standards are being followed in respect of both TMO and also guidance for Initiative Leads.
  • Develops and improves methods and processes for SharePoint documentation and documentation standards.
  • Supports the implementation and administration of TMO tooling and maintenance of the tools (including planning and SharePoint), leveraging TW capabilities and tools data and reporting teams (e.g. PowerBI)
  • Flexible to travel when required to support turnaround initiative activities.

We are looking for someone who is diligent and has a ‘hands-on’ approach to tasks, someone able to balance working on their own initiative, including proactively identifying opportunities to improve, with collaboration with teams. As part of the investment in building internal change capability, you will receive expert upskilling and coaching.

What you should bring to the role:

  • Experience working in a large company business improvement project, programme or portfolio environment, across the full life-cycle.
  • Competent at data analysis, including the ability to source, analyse and present the right data and insight for a variety of purposes.
  • Ability to draft sections of Executive and Board plans/reports, with coaching and guidance.
  • Competent in MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and collaboration tools such as Teams, SharePoint. Preferable experience of Power BI.
  • Previous experience as a PMO Analyst desirable.
  • Able to work well within a team and support peers and consistently live the Thames Water values.
  • Motivated, goal oriented and able to balance independence with team collaboration, taking ownership of tasks, being proactive, and working in collaboration where needed, whilst holding others to account.
  • Flexible and resilient to deal with changes, challenges and setbacks, applying learning while maintaining a positive mindset focused on outcomes.
  • ‘Hands-on’ approach to tasks, including when working with teams.
  • Sufficiently confident to engage with a range of business teams, stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Good communication skills and sensitivity in dealing with any issues that may arise.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive salary from £45,000 - £55,000 per annum depending on experience
  • Annual Leave - 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service (Plus bank holidays)
