Solicitor Advocates/Barristers for National Police Team

I’m excited to announce an opportunity for qualified Solicitor Advocatesor Barristers to join our esteemed National Police team. If you’re passionate about advocating for civil protective orders and making a difference in the Magistrates’ Court, I want to hear from you!

Role Overview: As part of the National Police team, you’ll focus on advising, preparing, and presenting civil protective orders in the Magistrates’ Court. This includes but isn’t limited to Domestic Violence Protection Orders, Stalking Protection Orders, Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Sexual Risk Orders, Anti-Social Behaviour injunctions, and closure orders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of civil protective orders.
  • Present cases in the Magistrates’ courts with confidence.
  • Organize Case Manager diary and action lists effectively.
  • Draft various documents, including court applications.
  • Achieve set financial and chargeable targets.
  • Work in alignment with Weightmans’ values.

Requirements: 

  • Previous experience as a qualified Solicitor or Barrister.
  • Genuine and demonstrable interest in civil protective orders.
  • Strong advocacy skills or a willingness to learn and undertake this work.
  • Self-motivation and excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in IT.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines and targets.
  • Flexibility to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Willingness to learn new areas of law.
  • Experience in advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court (desirable).
  • Experience advising and acting on behalf of police forces (desirable).
  • Flexibility for advocacy in Wiltshire and surrounding areas.
