We have a fascinating opportunity for someone who wants to gain a broad understanding of the general insurance industry or financial regulation. The industry is incredibly diverse and varied, and so the scope of your work will be, too. General insurance plays a huge role in the UK economy, and in this role at the ABI, you can have a real impact on future policy development, and on how the insurance industry interacts with businesses across the UK, contributes to UK growth and competitiveness, and ensures consumers are treated fairly.
We’re looking for a Policy Adviser to work on the development of policy relating to either commercial insurance (insurance which businesses purchase) or conduct regulation, depending on your skills, experience and interests. Either way, there’s an opportunity to get involved in career-defining work, which could take your future career in a range of exciting directions.
We welcome people who are new to insurance (most of us were when we joined) – as well as those with experience. We are open to flexible, part time and/or job share working – please let us know if this would be your preference. We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of time in the office.

• Ability to understand complex policy issues and risks – you can get up to speed quickly with the technical detail.
• An analytical mind – you use evidence to back up your decisions.
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills – you know how to approach stakeholders of all levels and backgrounds.
• Demonstrable lobbying skills – you can influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere.
• Effective presentation skills – you know how to tailor you message to your audience.
