Job description

ABOUT US

We are National Energy Action (NEA) – and our vision is to end fuel poverty; our work to improve and promote energy efficiency brings social, environmental, housing and employment benefits.  We believe everyone should be able to afford to keep their homes warm and safe, however, low incomes, high energy bills and poor energy efficiency currently deny this to millions of households across the UK.  Never has this been more important than today.

NEA’s teams are friendly, knowledgeable and are dedicated to what we do.  We are proud of our expertise and proud of the service we deliver to our clients.

We offer colleagues a friendly, rewarding workplace and the chance to build a worthwhile career with a not-for-profit organisation that is proud to make a genuine difference to people’s lives each and every day.

THE ROLE

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of Policy & Campaigns Officer, to work on a full-time basis.

Working within our Northern Ireland directorate, the successful candidate will report to our Director of Northern Ireland and also work closely with the Policy team in London and Newcastle-upon-Tyne to maximise our advocacy reach.

The post centres on developing and delivering NEA NI’s Policy and campaigns work in Northern Ireland, engaging with the Government, MLA’s, key members and partners for the benefit of fuel poor households across Northern Ireland. You will have responsibility for drafting NEA’s responses to relevant consultations and deliver concise and compelling briefings on relevant policies and campaigns for internal and external audiences. You will have a key responsibility for analysing the impact of all relevant aspects of Policy and regulation on fuel poor households at a local, regional, and national level, and work with colleagues and partners to capture key insights and ensure these are reflected in policy positions.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

Reporting to NEA’s Director of Northern Ireland, you will have demonstratable experience within a national charity, the energy industry, utility regulator, lobby group or consumer body. You will have excellent communication and analytical skills, and a proven ability to influence key stakeholders. It is not necessary but desirable to have an understanding of relevant energy Policy and regulation and its impacts on fuel poverty with experience of both quantitative and qualitative approaches to inform policy making decisions.

A willingness to travel occasionally throughout Northern Ireland, England and Wales is also required.

Your base location will be Belfast – post holders must be resident within the UK and able to prove their right to work in the UK.  It is anticipated that staff will work between their home and the Belfast Office at 1 College House, Citylink Business Park, Albert Street, Belfast, BT12 4HQ. However, hybrid working is subject to a risk assessment to ensure the working environment is appropriate under health and safety and GDPR requirements.

 WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Salary range: £32,641 - £37,304 (Scale SO1 - SO2, Points 23 - 28)

  • 11.5% non-contributory pension

  • 25 days annual leave plus 3 additional days in between Christmas and New Year when our offices close; plus, all public holidays (in the region where you are based) per annum

  • Flexible working arrangements including the opportunity for hybrid working

  • Enhanced family friendly payments
