Pop Up Space Manager

Creative Crawley’s Pop Up Spaces Manager oversees the practical and logistical operation of two pop-Up Spaces to test their potential as cultural hubs for Crawley.  The following spaces will operate from January to July 2025; an empty unit in County Mall Shopping Centre, Theatre Centre’s West Green space and our office in Crawley College alongside the other spaces we use for one off activity. These spaces will operate as part of these programmes of work Creative Playground and in particular The Creative Village

Salary:                       £30,000 per annum

Contract:                  Full time, fixed term September 2024- August 2025

The role focuses on helping to utilise the spaces as time limited resources for The Creative Village programme’s participants (local young people and creative professionals) and the wider Crawley community (impacting the local economy and access to arts and culture). The Pop Up Spaces Manager will ensure the spaces Creative Crawley delivers its programme in are maintained to a high standard ensuring the best possible welcome, a safe, friendly and inspiring environment and offering the highest quality of service for our community of visitors.

All the work the company does has community engagement at its heart. The whole staff team are involved in talking to, collaborating with and listening to local people to help shape the programme. The work produced will reflect the organisation’s mission, vision and values. 

This is not an entry-level job, Creative Crawley is about to go through another burst of growth; we want someone who has the capacity to hit the ground running and can get the most out of the meanwhile use spaces we work in

Q: What is a Pop Up Space?

A: For us, it’s a physical space that is normally used for something else that temporarily becomes a space for creative activity. It could be a shop that’s turned into a gallery or a community centre that becomes a theatre, it could be a town square that becomes a performance space or a former restaurant that becomes an artist’s studio.

Q: What kind of jobs might the successful candidate have done before?

A: The successful candidate might be an entrepreneurial caretaker or a creative and commercially minded former estate agent. They might have been an Events Space Manager or a Commercial Facilities or Operations Manager in the past. They might not have worked in the arts before. 

Q: What are the key skills you are looking for? 

A:  Someone who is practical, organised and understands how buildings work. Someone who is handy with tools, has a design eye and can also make people feel welcome in any kind of space. Entrepreneurial thinking and flexibility will be key to this role.
