Portfolio Manager - Energy Liability

The Opportunity:
We are seeking a talented Portfolio Manager to join our Natural Resources team in London. As a Portfolio Manager, you will play a crucial role underwriting a wide-range of insurance risks across our diverse and growing Energy Liability account. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and respected market leader, with a renowned and longstanding reputation in its approach and leadership in underwriting, servicing and claims support for customers in the Energy business.
You will be working alongside other colleagues, in the US, London and Asia, dedicated to underwriting business in the Exploration and Production, Refining, Midstream, Chemicals, Petro-Chemicals, Renewables, Power and Utilities industries. Your Role:
  • Manage, lead and develop an established Portfolio of World-Wide Energy Liability businesses (circa $75m GWP), written over our Lloyds, Company and QBE SA/NV entities.
  • Underwrite risks over a large cross section of wordings, conditions and structures, that supports QBE's wide ranging Natural Resources customer base.
  • Understanding and work within the compliance, internal and external regulation frameworks. Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements to meet internal and external obligation and requirements of a wide range of stake-holders.
  • Prepare and deliver an annual business plan for the portfolio, with an active role in monitoring and reporting on progress, deviations and challenges, alongside the ability to identifying strategic and tactical actions that are required to support the delivery of business performance.
  • Build and maintain strong and lasting relationships with key stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners, reinsurers and colleagues, to ensure the business retains its reputation for industry knowledge and technical and commercial leadership and decision making
  • Work closely with colleagues, to develop and foster long-term strategic relationships with a diverse range of international clients, to support our ambition to lead and flourish in the ever changing world of energy.
  • Promote the department, division, company and London brand positively to support and grow the reputation of QBE in all of our activities
  • Manage, motivate and develop the team(s)to foster a strong culture of performance, development opportunities and teamwork.
About You:
  • Proven and trusted experience and reputation in the Energy Insurance market-place, demonstrating a strong understanding of the industry, customer and broker dynamics
  • Commercial acumen to grasp key profit drivers and influencers, to support the growth of long-term wealth for shareholders.
  • Intermediate proficiency in relevant software, including Excel and other departmental tools
  • Engaging and thoughtful approach towards customer, broker and other stakeholder interaction, capable of bringing QBE to the forefront of the market, over a wide range of engagements.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiating and communication skills, backed by a solid commercial understanding of the energy and underwriting business
  • Leadership and teamwork qualities - with the ability to lead, develop, motivate and manage a team, through a wide range of activities and challenges - whilst working closely and collegiately alongside colleagues
