Portfolio Technical Lead - Chemistry

Location – Staythorpe (Other locations can be considered, with travel required to RWE’s Gas Assets essential)

Contract Type – Permanent

Working Hours – Full time

Are you an experienced People Manager, with a background in Chemistry in the Power or Petrochemical sector?

 

Owing to internal progression, we are on the look out for a Portfolio Technical Lead for Chemistry.  You will have responsibility for managing a team of Chemists and Technicians, spread geographically across our fleet of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power stations and our  Central Support Laboratory and the services it provides.

 

You will be both a technical expert and a strong people manager, able to make optimum technical decisions and give your team the tools to do the same in order to deliver projects and tasks across the portfolio safely and with a commercial focus.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for providing support to our assets across a range of chemistry specialisms including, Water, Environmental & Safety Regulation, Coatings and Corrosion, Noise and Air Quality.
  • Management of our Central Support Laboratory, which provides water chemistry analysis, oil analysis, air monitoring support and management of specialist analytical support contracts.
  • Provide leadership on all areas of Health Safety & Wellbeing across the chemistry team, role modelling the right culture and behaviours.
  • Delivery on the requirements of line management, including HR tasks such as performance management, target setting and annual performance reviews
  • Alignment  of resources taking into consideration the medium to long-term priorities established by the business.  
  • Accountability for the  optimum techno-economic decisions in Chemistry and its consistent application; inline with our individual  asset strategies across the portfolio.
  • Utilisation of own/portfolio/RWE wide industrial knowledge in the development of strategies for Chemistry, aligned with market conditions / capital availability of the business for optimum decision making and considering the long term  asset care.
  • Working with Operations and Maintenance, Engineering & Outage Planning, Asset Management  to develop strategies within Chemistry to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of our assets.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Degree educated in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar
  • Experience of managing a team, ideally one that is geographically dispersed
  • A strong understanding of the wider power generation process and how their discipline fits, not just technically but also from a process safety, operational and commercial perspective.
  • A detailed knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly how it is applied to chemistry in a power station environment
  • Able to change priorities comfortably according to different demands
  • A willingness to travel according to business and your team’s priority

  • An expected starting salary from approximately £80,000 to £95,000 depending on experience and up to 15% annual bonus
