Job description

We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Psychology for an enthusiastic and experienced Research Associate. Supported by researchers from the Research on Research Institute, the Volkswagen Foundation is running an experiment in Distributed Peer Review of applications for research funding (DPR). In DPR applicants review each others’ proposals rather than proposals being reviewed by a panel. The aim is to make funding allocation more efficient, effective and fair.
We are seeking a post-doctoral Research Associate to support analysis, evaluation and reporting of the experiment. You will be part of a small team working at the University of Sheffield on quantitative and qualitative evaluation of this project, and will have the opportunity to present directly to the Funder and to co-author project outputs, including academic papers.
More broadly, you will become part of an international team positioned at the centre of the rapidly evolving field of Research on Research, a.k.a. metascience, with the corresponding opportunities for career development, and to make contributions to the development of research in this exciting field.
The Psychology Department at the University of Sheffield is among the largest in the UK and has been consistently ranked as one of the outstanding research departments in all seven UK Research Assessment Exercises to date. Over 90% of our department’s research was classed as internationally excellent or world leading in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
What We Offer:
● 41 days annual leave (including closure days and Bank Holidays), with the possibility to purchase up to ten additional days.
● Up to 5 days of paid time off to cover emergency caring responsibilities.
● A commitment to work life balance including, flexible working opportunities and hybrid working where possible.
● A highly competitive pension scheme.
● Discounts at participating shops and cinemas, and a cycle to work scheme.
● A commitment to your development, with programmes, learning modules and mentoring schemes.
