Job description

DepartmentThe University of Essex is one of the top research-intensive universities in the UK. The School of CSEE is top-rated and has a long-standing tradition of research into Communications and Networks (COMNET). It was one of the first UK universities to actively research into these areas, back in the Department of Electronic System Engineering (ESE). In the recent Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF’2021), CSEE ranks the 6th in the UK for our research power and the 9th for our research impact (by Grade Point Average). Duties of the RoleYou will be appointed as a Senior Research Officer (equivalent to a Postdoctoral Research Fellow) at Essex and will work with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Yunfei Long (email: yl20051@essex.ac.uk), to ensure the successful delivery of the 18-month project titled "Improving Multimodality Misinformation Detection with Affective Analysis," funded by the Alan Turing Institute, UK. The Postdoctoral Researcher should possess rich experience in the design, analysis, and evaluation of misinformation detection systems with a multimodality input model, coupled with emotion analysis. Experience in the following research topics will be a significant advantage: metaphor prediction, cyberbullying/hate speech detection, explainable AI, and large language modelling. The Postdoctoral Researcher is required to attend regular research meetings and publish/present the research outputs in high-quality journals and flagship conferences. The researcher is expected to actively engage with the research community and industrial partners to maximize the project's impact. This is a research- focused position, and no teaching duties are associated with this post. Skills and qualifications required A relevant doctoral level degree in NLP/Multi-modality or equivalent professional experience. The ability and willingness to complement and enhance the research project/department/school’s education and research strengths and areas of planned development.
