Premises Officer
Salary: Grade 5 £24,294 - £24,702
Location: Worthing
Job Type: Full-time, 52 weeks per year, 37 hours per week in shifts, including some weekend hours

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated Premises Officer to join this school's team, ensuring the ongoing maintenance and safety of our school site and facilities. The role is ideal for someone who is a team player, thrives in a nurturing community, and values maintaining a positive and welcoming environment.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Undertake general repairs, maintenance, and support the Premises Manager in maintaining the security, safety, cleanliness, porterage, and upkeep of the school buildings and grounds.
  • Set up and provide practical support for assemblies, meetings, and events, reflecting the Christian ethos and values of the school.
  • Open/close the school building, act as a key holder, and ensure site security, including the operation of alarms.
  • Provide access to the school site out of hours as needed and support the Site Manager during absences or busy periods.
  • Take deliveries, undertake porterage duties, and perform routine maintenance and minor refurbishments.
  • Use manual and power tools for repair and maintenance tasks, report major defects, and keep simple records.
  • Operate the school’s heating plant and carry out grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in the collection and disposal of recycling, emergency cleaning, and maintaining stock of cleaning materials.
  • Participate in health and safety activities, act as a fire warden, and undertake regular checks on equipment and facilities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NVQ, GNVQ, or GCSE qualifications are desirable.
  • Basic Health and Safety qualifications are desirable.
  • Manual Handling Training is desirable.
  • Hold a First Aid qualification is desirable.
  • General knowledge of basic building maintenance is essential.
  • Practical experience of basic building and grounds maintenance is essential.
  • Basic DIY abilities are essential.
  • Driver’s licence is essential.
  • Ability to undertake physically demanding work is essential.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and visitors is essential.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines is essential.
  • Flexible approach to work requirements is essential.
  • Able to maintain discretion, tact, and confidentiality at all times is essential.
  • Possess a positive attitude and approach to change and development is essential.
  • Enjoy rising to the challenges inherent in a school environment is essential.
