Job description


The post holder will have a key leadership role within the fetal surveillance team and will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the division’s quality and safety agenda. The post holder will support the Matron for Fetal Surveillance to enhance and develop high standards of care through education, patient safety incident response management, risk management and continuous quality improvement. The post holder will be an advocate for women and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within Saint Mary’s Hospital Managed Clinical Service ensuring that Trust values and beliefs are upheld. Key work will focus upon leading the PreTerm Birth service across the MCS, including the provision of expert clinical care. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring Element 5 of the implementation of Saving Babies Lives (SBL) care bundle across the trust and contributing to the reduction of premature birth and stillbirth. Two posts are available; one with a primary workbase at North Manchester General Hospital ( 15 hours) one post with a primary workbase at Oxford Road Campus (ORC) (30 hours).
The post holder will:
Support the Matron for Fetal Surveillance to improve patient safety by promoting safe practice and robust patient safety systems with a particular focus on public health & stillbirth prevention.
Lead Preterm Birth and perinatal optimisation education and improvements in practice to support high quality, safe care provided by a highly competent workforce.
Be a member of the multi-disciplinary team to advance and enhance practice within the division
Work in partnership with service users, the multidisciplinary teams and local stakeholders to improve and protect the health & wellbeing of families
Support the MFT investigation process; including reviewing clinical incidents, providing feedback to staff, developing local actions to improve care.
Take a leading role in auditing practice, analysis of results and preparing reports for presentation with a specific focus on PreTerm Birth prevention and perinatal optimisation
Support quality improvement initiatives and the MFT Improving Quality Programme (IQP); including identifying areas for improvement / themes arising from clinical incidents
Support the process for developing and updating clinical guidelines
Provide expert clinical care to women and their families
