The Microsoft Search, Assistant, and Intelligence (MSAI) team is responsible for developing and delivering innovative solutions for Microsoft 365 Copilot. We work on integrating intelligence and natural language capabilities into all the Microsoft 365 apps.

As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will have the opportunity to impact millions of enterprise users and help them be more productive and efficient by building the next set of intelligence features around search & recommendations in Microsoft 365 Copilot. You will be empowered to drive innovation by producing new and exciting ideas to creatively solve issues, as well as actively look for opportunities to improve product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design & build features that leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) to define the next set of experiences in Microsoft 365 Copilot and substantially improves existing ones.

  • Be responsible for continuously researching and being up to date with advances in Generative AI to turn these into features that impact millions of users.

  • Coach and mentor other scientists and engineers to help grow their skillset and expertise.

Qualifications

  • A master's degree in the areas of Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing.
  • Proficient industry experience in the areas above or publication record.
  • Proficiency in Python, Pyspark, or C#
  • Excellent problem solving and data analysis skills, with expertise in developing or applying predictive analytics, statistical modelling, data mining, or machine learning algorithms, especially at scale.
  • Grounded in growth mindset, and advocate for diversity and inclusion.
  • Customer obsession and passionate about product impact
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify and explain complex ideas.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, Math, Physics, Statistics, or related areas.
  • Experience in the application of Language Models and Transformers.
  • A publication record in top AI venues will be considered a plus.
