We are seeking a Principal Engineer responsible for leading the technical delivery of engineering projects. This role involves working closely with the Engineering Manager to manage, develop, and recruit the company’s engineering resources. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background and experience in design engineering within a highly regulated environment.

Day-to-day of the role:
Manage the technical aspects of allocated projects with minimal supervision, ensuring regular consultation with the Head of Department.
Task and oversee the work of allocated engineers.
Analyse technical tender specifications, produce technical aspects of tender returns, and create accurate tender design estimates.
Conduct peer reviews of concept designs, 3D CAD scheme designs, detailed manufacturing drawings, and design substantiation by hand calculations.
Substantiate engineering designs through hand calculations.
Develop the engineering resource, including the development and implementation of internship and apprenticeship programmes.
Produce concept designs, full 3D scheme design, and 2D detail design for manufacture within SolidWorks, all within required timescales.
Assist with clerical and administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the Engineering Department.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Demonstrable track record in engineering design using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD.
Technical and commercial acumen.
Very strong mechanical engineering background.
Exposure to and understanding of a wide range of manufacturing processes.
Minimum of a Degree, HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
Chartered Engineer IMechE preferred.
Significant experience in engineering design activities in a highly regulated environment.
