About Nu Quantum
Nu Quantum is on a mission to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory and to shape the future of quantum information systems. We're working on exciting technology that will improve the utility and accelerate the time-to-market of quantum computing systems. We integrate novel quantum photonic technology to form an efficient and scalable quantum networking infrastructure in partnership with world-leading companies and academic groups.

The Role
Developing the Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits (Q-PICs) which will define the future of quantum networking and quantum computer interconnect technology and sit at the heart of Nu Quantum's products. This highly-skilled team is conducting research & development to build fast, low-loss single-photon compatible integrated photonic components and cutting-edge quantum circuit architectures comprising photonic switches and network.
The work entails the development of Integrated Photonics components and circuits with active and passive elements in collaboration with external foundry and in loco-clean room facilities. In this role, you will be responsible for measurements set-up and interface preparation for PIC and carry characterisation measurements of active and passive devices on Integrated Photonics platforms. You will also contribute to the design and modelling of photonic devices tailored to quantum technology applications.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Contribution/support in the desigb/layout of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for quantum applications
  • Simulation & optimization of photonic building blocks and complete photonic circuits for quantum applications
  • Test measurement setup and interface preparation for PIC characterization (optical & electro-optical) at room and cryogenic conditions
  • Data analysis, collaborative work with external partners, and report writing

Your Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Postgraduate degree in Physics or Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with optical and electro-optical characterisation of photonic components and circuits
  • Good understanding of low-loss optical coupling fibre to photonic chip
  • Experience with CAD design software such as IPKISS, NAZCA, GDSPY, GDS Factory, or similar
  • ·Prior experience working in close collaboration with external PIC foundries on the development of PIC for quantum applications
  • ·Experience with photonics device & circuit simulation software, such as Ansys Lumerical (Mode, FDTD, Interconnect, etc.) or similar
  • Modeling & RF measurement experience of low-loss, high-speed devices such as photonic switch in the field of Integrated microwave photonics
  • ·Experience/tendency towards using scripting (python etc.) for measurement & data analysis

Experience with some of the following is not necessary, but a bonus:

  • Packaging design experience for fibre to chip optical coupling
  • Integration and measurement of photonic components under cryogenics conditions
  • Experience with PIC design tools such as IPKISS/NAZCA/GDSPY, or similar

Benefits

Nu Quantum values diversity and seeks to provide all staff with the opportunity for employment, career and personal development on the basis of ability and potential. We believe that EVERYONE can bring fresh ideas, thinking and approaches which make the way we work more effective and efficient.
We look forward to receiving your application.
