The Opportunity

Following a period of continued growth at Arden University, the Institute of Foundation Studies positioned in the Faculty of Business wishes to appoint a Principal Lecturer. Our structure in the Institute of Foundation Studies consists of the Director, 2 x Principal Lecturers, 7 x Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, Assistant Lecturers, and Associate Lecturers.

We are currently looking for an experienced HE professional to join as a Principal Lecturer for the Foundation Year. You will join two other Principal Lecturers and along with the Director, you will be part of the Institute of Foundation Studies Senior Leadership Team. We are primarily looking for someone with extensive knowledge and understanding of Foundation Years focusing on student experience/voice in Foundation Year and, academic integrity in Foundation Year.


We work to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of our Foundation Year programmes in accordance with university strategy, policies, and procedures with excellent student outcomes. This is an exciting time to join the Institute of Foundation Studies - we are continually improving the student experience and have recently launched a new programme and curriculum in September 2023.

About you:

We would like to hear from applicants who have:

  • Recognised HE teaching qualification (e.g.: PG Cert HE, SFHEA, QTLS/QTS Secondary)

  • A fellow/senior fellow/principal fellow of Advance HE (or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
  • Excellent digital capabilities and skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • A successful track record of leading Foundation Year or preparatory programmes for higher education delivering high levels of student outcomes in key metrics (continuation L3-4, progression through levels, completion of awards, degree classification, graduate employment) and student satisfaction (internal and external surveys)
  • Significant and successful experience of teaching on academic programmes in a relevant subject discipline
  • An in-depth understanding of the diverse needs of students at different levels
  • A clear vision of academic and professional excellence within programmes
