About The Role

Are you looking to build on your marine non-native species knowledge in a role that has real impact on protecting UK biodiversity? Do you already possess experience working to identify and help to put measures in place to prevent the spread of species such as slipper limpets, American lobsters, and pacific oysters? Are you ready to lead projects and manage and develop other scientists with the same passion as you?

APEM's Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) Team provides a range of cutting-edge services covering ecosystems with the purpose of meeting our clients with the management of INNS. We are recruiting for a Principal Marine INNS Consultant to help deliver our invasion management services including risk identification and assessment, pathways management and monitoring.

You will be responsible for winning and delivering a range of projects with a focus on INNS in the marine and estuarine environments. You will deliver high quality technical reports and work closely the wider INNS team. We you will be supported, where needed, to manage budgets and large scale, multi-faceted project delivery. You will to helped to move from mentor and coach to become a line manager who has a track record in developing engaged scientistswith a reputation for excellence.

To apply you will need:

  • BSc or MSc degree in a relevant subject and significant professional experience, obtained through academic research, a regulator or consultancy.
  • Knowledge of policy, legislation and issues relating to marine INNS management.
  • Experience of working with risk assessment processes, including species and pathways-based approaches, monitoring and surveillance approaches, INNS distribution data sets, in addition to biosecurity measures and management approaches.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills.
  • Proven ability to manage, plan and deliver projects or work packages on time, to agreed quality standards and within budget.
  • Strong, creative problem-solving, organisational and analytical skills.
